Hey Alpkit!
What a load of foam:
These people still haven’t ridden 650b+ but funnily enough most of them will probably now own a 29er in one guise or another!
Since when?
On weight:
More than likely as light as the regular 2.3 trail tyre you’ve got on your bike now.
Got any evidence, or is that just more guff?
And on long travel Bikes:
The one downside is that a lot of the time they make things a bit too easy...
No they don't. Just ride some harder stuff.
And as for the rear triangle on their Bikes - Blind man with a pencil could have done better.
Stick to what you do best and leave the marketing pollacks out . . .Please.

I think you'll find that by "these people" they mean the folk that are likely to be buying bikes and frames aimed at the same bikepacking market Alpkit are establishing themselves in.
The long travel/short travel/no travel debate wages on here occasionally. As you say, you either find more challenging stuff to ride or (in some cases) you choose a bike to restore a little challenge (e..g. lots of folk riding CX/fatbikes now).
Its hardly bad by marketing standards. Its just a bloke sounding off to sell more units. He might even believe it
Here is What Trek say about 29er +
GO BIGStache is an all-new species of 29+ mountain bike performance. The wide 3" tires grip relentlessly, amplifying all the benefits of 29ers, while remarkably short chainstays deliver a fun, lively ride.
Want the capability of a full suspension trail bike in a simple hardtail package, plus the extra benefits of 29+ tires? Then you were born to ride the Stache.
Specialized on fat bikes
When did mountain biking get so uptight? As we see it, fun is a right, not a privilege. And no matter where or when you're riding, it should always be at the heart of each pedal stroke. So whether you're on singletrack, sand, or snow, your bike should perform with this in mind. Naturally, this is where our Fatboy mountain bike comes in. It’s built for good times, and most likely, it’s the one bike missing in your quiver. But with tire clearance for up to five inches, a lightweight M4 aluminum frame, snappy handling, and rack mounts that make it adventure-ready, the real question is, "what's taken you so long?"
Specialized on 650b plus
Just a few years ago, the thought of a hardtail conjured up images of Lycra and cross country racing, not all-out trail ripping. Today, however, the all-new Fuse hardtail trail bike has turned that notion on its head. It all starts with our new 6Fattie wheel system that combines 650b wheels with our own 3.0-inch tires for a plush ride with an unbelievable amount of traction through the corners. Then there's our revolutionary Diamond Stay design, which allows the Fuse to maintain the shortest possible chainstays for snappy, responsive handling. And when you mix all of this with geometry that’s low, slack, and ready to send it, you get a bike that climbs like a hardtail and inspires confidence like the best trail bikes we've ever made. It's a bike that not only changes the category; it'll change the way that you ride.
