- disc, obviously
- 25mm internal
- 32h

Not wheels, just rims. Not really 29er rims either, as gravel is higher pressures.

I'm a fan of DT on the MTB, so their gravel rims are candidates. Hope do a 25 I think.

Any ideas/views?

Hard to look much past the DT GR 531, only issue would be if you are using 1.8mm
thread spokes or don't want to use their PHR nipples and washers.

erm...with a 25mm internal diameter, you're going to be running tyres that're greater than 32mm, so your pressures are going to be less than 60psi, so almost (NOT Crest) any 29er rim will be fine.

I've been running 29er carbon rims for years with 32mm+ tyres and pressures up to 70psi.

I agree with what's been said. I've just built a set of RaceFace Arc24 which are 24mm ID. The Race Face documentation states a 38mm tyre can be inflated to over 65 psi, yet the max tubeless pressure for my 700c 35mm Gravel King SK is 60 PSI. I'm not likely to go above 45 PSI so I'd say they're fine for gravel.

I have WTB ST i25, getting tyres on and off is a total PITA, with 40/45c tyres I never put more than 50psi in.
If I were to buy new ones I'd have a good DT Swiss rim, very impressed with DT on my MTB.

cheers

yeah I've had Crests fail in the past, when running them on my commuter, so that's why I was looking away from 29er rims. Obviously some would be fine.

DT GR531 look good.

25 is really wide for any tyre that you'd want to run higher than whatever it is crests allow.

I've got crests (35-40mm tyres run at 30-35psi). Considering a WTB Asym i19 to replace the rear if it fails.

I'd also recommend Pacenti Sl25 rims. They're only 20mm internal width, but give a good profile to a 40mm gravel tyre, can be ran tubeless and are only £48 a pair. It's worth remembering that only 10 years ago we were all using Mavic 717 and 719 rims for tyres upto 60mm. Current wisdom is that 30mm internal width is perfect for 2.6" tyres, so 20-22mm should be perfect for 28-42mm.

Note the SL25 is now called the Forza.

Where do you see £48/pair??

I don't like to admit what I just paid for a set of rim brake Forzas...

Was looking at some DT G 540 for a pair of gravel wheels. Half the price (nearly) of the 531s. Apart from 15g each end and fancy nipples (quiet at the back) - which might be an advantage in resistance to cracking now, but may become a disadvantage when you want to replace a spoke later - what's the difference?

The GR531 is quite heavy and whilst it’s internal width allows upto 53mm, surely that is only applicable if you’re running 650b and 2.1 tyres?

If you’re running 700c and upto 42mm tyres, then I’d say there are better, lighter, cheaper options out there.

Hell, you could get a set of carbon 29er rims from a reputable source for not much more and they’d save over 200g per rim.

That’s half a pound of rolling weight per wheel!!
