foggy in places but it's a start...

a 3 wheeler, Blue, white tyres (circa 1975) Memory: meeting my mate, we are still mates

Raleigh RSW - Red (Circa 1977) Memory: Falling off, 3 stitches above right eye.

Raleigh Tomahawk - Red (Circa 1979) Memory: Falling off with my mate riding pillion, doing no handed down our road.

Raleigh Grifter XL (Circa 1981) Memory: Shit gears - missing out on BMX. But it's okay,... there was room for a loaf of bread on the rear rack!!!

Peugeot ANC Halfords Racer - white, orange saddle (Circa 1986) - Memory: riding it home from Halfords - Merry Hill shopping centre, with the back wheel loose, and it rubbing on the chainstay taking paint off on its inaugural ride (standard Halfords) Laughing at mtb riders on the road peddling like maniacs and going nowhere as I whizzed by.

GT Backwoods - White/red/black, Judy's (Circa 2000) - Memory: Discovering Cannock Chase and Mountain Biking, meeting new friends, who are still friends. Chosen on recommendation of a What mtb best bike for £600 review.

Devinci Guzzler - Green, Pikes - (Circa 2004/5) - Memory: Saving up £2 coins to by it and being about £800 short. Ragging it around the Alps It was on its limits, but it survived as did I.

Commencal Supernormal - Smokey brown, self build - (Circa 2007) - Memory: Always a bit too small, but fast and bust my hand on it going about 1 mile an hour, bike was bad luck!

Cube Reaction 29er - white, rebas - (Circa 2011-present) - Memory: Being laughed at for being on a 29er, leaving my Wife gift to myself to cheer myself.

Coppi Road Bike 94? - yellow - (owned since 2012-present) - Memory: My get to work bike that i thought was too big, but now realise is a bit too small. People taking pics of it and admiring it during the TdF in yorkshire.

Olagnero Road Bike 95 - red, 105, - (owned since 2014-present) - Memory: first bike I looked at and realised making a steel framed bike was an art. Love it.

Percy Stallard, Cotswold, frame only, Reynolds 531 refurb, 1966? - (owned since 2014-present) - Memory: An eyeopening night with druggies and drink drivers in the pub down near Minehead where i picked it up, and the new village i picked it up from based around an old sanatorium! - awaiting strip and re-paint and build.

Falcon Racer 80s, Jap Pipe - (owned since 2014-present) - Memory: The brakes are extremely vague and it felt like i was going to die! Not been on it since, in a state of undress currently.

Mongoose BMX 2000's, (Owned since tomorrow) - Memory: not yet!

😀

Raleigh Grifter - 1982?

Raleigh White Lightening (653 frame and forks baby!) - frame bought Xmas 1991, parts bought and built up over the following year.
Kona Explosif Pro - 1993

Sunn Crosss - 2003/4
Massi Master racing bike - 2005
Specialized Stumpjumper S-Works - 2007
Identiti Mr Hyde - 2009
On-One Pompino - 2009

Probably missed a couple out! Still own 7 of them 😉

*edit*
just remembered 2 Saracens (Trekker Hydro Comp and a raised chainstay one) both bought during my 'retro-bike' phase, and a Peugeot racer that I used in triathlons as a spotty teen in the mid '90s.

A not in anyway distinguished history...

Raleigh Boxer - started with stabilisers ended with jumps in the street.

Raleigh Super Burner (the gold one with the skyway wheels - I bloody loved that bike)

British Eagle something or other touring bike with hub brakes that my stepdad got me because he thought I would be interested in long boring rides.

British Eagle MTB that I bought from money earned stacking shelves.

Trek 1400 - in white never got on with it, but it was pretty.

Now come the wilderness years, where I was at uni then doing a lot of travelling and not much cycling. Had a couple of pub bikes, forget the make now.

Marin Belvedere (circa 2008?) bought when I was starting to settle down. Used it to commute for a couple of years - now a pub bike.

Spesh Rockhopper Pro 2006 - ebay purchase around 2009 got me back into MTB and has been fun. Will shortly be donated to a good home.

Canyon Nerve 9.9 (last year -present) - my first new MTB for 25 years. Bought because I needed to treat myself. Never thought I would spend over £2k on a bike. Told the wife it was cheaper than a Lotus.

Pinnacle Arkose 4 - a Ride to Work special which I just finished paying for. So good, the wife got the lady version.

Edit: I have a vague recollection of a Grifter too. Might have been a mates. Would have been between the boxer and the Burner.

Little kids bikes, mainly Raleigh I think.
Raleigh mag burner - sadly given away by my mum.

mountain
Raleigh mustang sis - first "mountain bike"
Saracen limited edition 1993
2 x kona cinder cones
Dmr trailstar (one of the very first, with Judy xl 100mm travel dual crown forks)
Sunn radical+ dh - still one of my favourite bikes ever. Snapped it, welded it, then some thieving scrote took it
Merlin cro-mo jump bike
Diamond back vertex xtr (xc race bike)
Schwinn straight-8 pull shock - insurance replacement for the sunn, and about the only bike of mine which is even better downhill
GT steel something or other - too small so got rid quickly
Muddy fox duel team jump/4x bike. Still got its warranty replacement now.
Dialled love/hate single speed. Sadly sold to buy a 29er - wish I still had this one
On-one 29er, carbon forks, single speed. Great uphill and on some trails, but rubbish in the air & too sluggish on downhills
Univega dh bike - OK, bit flexy and fragile
Various kaktus - ahead of its time, would be a good enduro style bike now. I ride it with boxxers as a light, 6.5” dh build
Sold it and bought a kona coiler which was great at climbing rocky trails, but crap at everything else at speed. Felt like they had taken a good 4" bike and just lifted it 2 inches with more travel.
Ns society hardtail, great xc/jumpy compromise. Still my main bike now.
Orange crush - good, but not as good as the society.
Iron horse warrior. Much better than the kona, 5" travel xc/enduro bike.
Kona howler. Very good play bike, sold it to pay for a ti road bike.
Maverick ml7.5, bought as I've always liked the design. Not riding at the moment as it suits big xc rides and not much time for those with 2 kids etc.

bmx
Cheap mongoose
Better mongoose when I'd knackered the cheap one
Macneil freimuth as I wanted something with a 21" toptube
Kona big mama xl race bike
Sold them as wrists beaten up, 6 or so years ago
And just bought a link whip a few weeks back to have another go at bmx

road
Cheap old Claude butler
Cinelli steel with sora, nice but too small
Saracen ventoux. Nice ALU bike, but preferred steel
Ribble 731 with campagnolo veloce
Omega radius with campagnolo centaur. Still my best road bike, now with ultegra 10 speed
Planet x kafenback. Now in cyclocross mode
On-one pompetamine, great workhorse commuter, currently in bits.

Eek- think I've had too many, and probably missed a few!

Raleigh Nitro
96 Carrera Mission - first adult mtb, upgraded every part save for the headset and seatpost.
02 Azonic DS evo - bought as frame only, transferred all the upgrades from the carrera, but swapped the RST Gamma elastomer forks (with a whopping 75mm travel) for marzocchi Z1s. The difference was noticeable.
98-99 ish Kona Stinky - first full sus, Jr T forks, Hope C2 front brake, Avid V brake rear. Stolen.
04 Apollo Vortice BMX - bought for £100, razzed around everywhere on it, great fun. Sold a year later for £60
06 Specialized Demo 8 - first bike bought with money from 'proper' job, lots of upgrades. Stolen from whistler. Best bike ever.
09 Specialized SX trail II - replacement for the the above. Hated it. Too heavy for trail riding, too steep and upright for DH.
08? GT IT1 - Monster bike. 9 inch travel 'gearbox' huck bike. 48lbs.
05? Orange Hitman - eBay bargain, to use when the above wasn't appropriate (98% of the time)
09 Intense slopestyle Mk1 - decided a jump bike and a dh monster weren't ideal so this was an attempt to combine the 2. Kinda worked....
13 Trek 1.5 road bike still got. First foray into road biking. Now winter commuter.
(No idea) On One inbred. Frame bought while drunk...Fancied singlespeed, built from spares originally then upgraded everything again.
13 Trek Madone 5.2 - still got. Enjoyed road bikes. Bought a fancy one. Upgraded to full DA Di2, C50 wheels, carbon everything. Silly fast.
99 GT pro series 24. Was for sale on here. Always wanted one. Rode it once, sold it 6months later.
14 Santa Cruz 5010 carbon - still got. Went on a demo day, decided that all manufacturers should stop trying, as this was perfect. Wish list build. 140mm pikes, ccdb inline, hope/enve wheels, XX1, reverb, 26lbs
14 Santa Cruz Nomad Mk3 - still got. Saw the dozens of launch articles/ on release day. Placed order. Was the first bike for a non sponsored rider in the UK. Same spec as the 5010, save for longer pikes (160) and a vivid air shock.
15 Specialized Fatboy Pro - still got. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
13 Santa Cruz Chameleon - still got. Got a text from Stif saying some (free) replacement stickers had come in for me. This was the result. Bought as a frame only, last of the 26ers in a sale. Remember that /\ inbred? Plan was to use all the parts off that. 😆 decided the 5yr old 120mm rebas wouldn't cut it, so new 150mm pikes were bought. Decided the 711 bars were too narrow, 750mm Carbon bought. A bike like this needs a dropper too right? Reverb bought. There's a 142x12 rear end upgrade available? Oh yes. CBA with singlespeed anymore. 1x11 group set added.... These free stickers cost me close to 2 grand....

Having had all that, I genuinely can't think of a bike I want, save for maybe an ebike when I get really old and broken.

Shorter list than most on here I think...

1974ish
Red trike with a baby blue 'boot' for running errands to the village shop.

1976ish
Raleigh Chipper started my thing for orange bikes.

1980ish
Silver Halfords 'racer' - 15 speed IIRC with downtube shifters. Ridden everywhere including off road and the odd little jump.

Then a few years where bikes gave way to early home computers & consoles, music, beer and finally cars (mostly minis).

1993
Home built 'klunker' from various police auction donor bikes. Heavy and very yellow, but got me round Cambridge in my student days just fine.

1995
Another frankenbike based on an early '90s Peugeot steel MTB frame (which I still have, albeit built up as a ratty shop/pub bike). First taste of proper hills as I lived in Barnsley at the time.

1997
Custom build (a bit of a bizarre one in places - BMX stem and risers) based on a very nice one-off (prototype AFAIK) orange Lee Cooper steel XC frame (still riding this as my slick-shod singlespeed commuter). Mostly used for bimbling along canals and around the edge of fields in Warwickshire.

2001
Mk2 Trailstar custom build. A bit ahead of its time in some ways and was the template for almost every bike I've built up since - small frame, short stem, wide risers, single chainring, big tyres. When I ride it outside every now and again (it's usually set up on the turbo) the only real giveaway that it's an old bike is the twitchy head angle.

Then another gap while I got obsessed with my now wife and some new money pit hobbies (digital music production and then archery).

2009
Identiti Mr Hyde. Burly as anything. This was my bike on my first trips to Scotland and The Lakes - it opened my eyes a bit to say the least.

2012
Cotic BFe. Another hardcore hardtail. Incredibly capable bike - it's an XS so basically a big wheeled off-road BMX that I can still comfortably do all-day rides on. Still ridden pretty often. First riding trips to The Peak and Wales on this bike.

2014
Orange Alpine 160 26. The bike I got when I couldn't get a Rocket (the numbers were VERY similar for geometry, weight and price). Very orange. First full suss and another real eye opener. Eats rocks and rough stuff and surprisingly good to climb with (faster on most off road climbs than the BFe).

Started with a trike- I think it was yellow and red.
Then I was given a Raleigh Chipper by a neighbour, it had been painted with white gloss. I can remember when my Dad took the stabilisers off- I hit my knee and promptly fell out with the bike fit a while.
Next bike was a secondhand Grifter, I think it was stuck in the hardest gear, it had rock hard spikey green grips which were very uncomfortable.
Universal Hill Street Cruiser, my first "ATB". 10 speed Shimano Tourney- wooOOooo.
The next one escapes me, it was black and green and had 200GS and biopace rings.
Quickly followed by a British Eagle ZFX two. This is when constant upgrading took over!
Univega Alpina 5.3 next, STX RC iirc.
Cheap ass aluminium frame build.
DMR Trailstar, with Z1 Bams.
Specialized Pitch Pro.
Reacquired the Trailstar for a SS build.
Kona Kula SS build.
Specialized Langster.
Kona Unit.
456 EVO II, using the Pitch as a donor.
Pinnacle Arkose 3.

Something small and red with stabilisers that eventually fell off (after a short period of riding with just one side on...)
Random inherited step-through frame hand painted baby blue. Had a rear rack.
Raleigh striker. Remember repainting the chainguard
Hand me down Raleigh grifter with a bent crank. Ride on any borrowed bike felt weird for a while!
First "mtb" - Townsend something; steel wheels, centre ridge tyres, falcon friction gears, weighed the same as a small sun. First bike I bought new. Should have spent the extra £25 for the model up in the sale with sis and alloy rims but it wasn't green and I was a naive 11 year old.
Muddy fox pathfinder - actual mtb!
Scott Tampico in 1998 bought with a small inheritance
Transferred all the bits to a kona chute frame sometime in 2007, along with a pair of psylos and some avid juicy brakes
Acquired Orbea something hardtail for xc duties
Given an 80's Raleigh road bike of some type
Inherited an Orange ST4 pro - left in my best mates will
A dirt cheap 2nd giant OCR2 while banned from mtb riding for medical reasons.
I've done a lot of riding with not many bikes

My list pales into insignificance compared to mamadirt's, but I still think I have a real problem! Especially as I'm not even sure this is complete... In fact I'm pretty sure I've missed a few out (I've not included any I've bought just to use as donors for parts)...

Raleigh Burner BMX - first I can remember, I'm sure there were others before
Raleigh 10spd road bike of some description (it was about 1987, I was 7, didn't really get bikes still at this age)
Marin Muirwoods - 1990 and first proper MTB
Marin Eldridge Grade - 1995 model, spent all my savings upgrading this one!
Orange X1 - 1996... I know, never be the beta tester. Did lots of miles on it mind!
Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Team Edition - 1997 model, with Carbon legged Judy's, just like JMC's! Bought off "lookmanohands" of this forum (his XC race bike of the previous season), and I kept it for many years to come.
Proflex Animal - 1997 model F&F bought old stock in 2001. Quickly became my then GF's bike
Trek Fuel 100 - 2001 I was working PT in a shop and splashed all my wages on the best FS I could get hold of at the time.
GT Pro Series BMX - 99 model bought in 2001. The longest I've ever owned a bike (only sold it last year), and in 13 years I think I rode it maybe 20 times!
Specialized S-Works Enduro - 2003 champagne coloured model. One of the better bikes I've owned but a terribly unreliable shock!
Trek Bruiser - decided I needed a small fun HT in my life again. Early mid life crisis
Specialized S-Works Allez Road Bike - bought off Jedi from this forum... Did about 200 miles on it inside 4 years! Never mind...
Santa Cruz Bullit - sold the Enduro to buy this. Too much bike for most of my riding, but awesome in the Alps!
Airborne Lancaster - felt I needed something the antithesis of the Bullit, plus it was cheap... It worked on flexy time mind!
Another Trek Bruiser - enjoyed the first one, bought the 2nd one mucho cheap.
Intense Tazer FS - 2002 model I bought 2nd hand then built up as closely as a Nigel Page replica I could. Rode it twice I think, realising 4X wasn't for me.
GT Ruckus - Bought cheap, heavily upgraded. A more modern equivalent of the 90's Zaskar I never owned, or so I told myself.
Cannondale Gemini DH - my one and only full on DH bike. Gracia is, was, and always will be the coolest guy ever to ride a bike, and I owned one like his (albeit with a more modest build)
Maverick ML7 - having tried one about 5 years previously and fallen in love, it took several years for the price of 2nd hand ones to fall far enough to get into my clutches! Great bike, thoroughly misunderstood by the masses.
Genesis Altitude 853 - superb steel HT, in the vain of the Cotic Soul but cheaper. Did a lot of miles on this.
Giant Reign X - superb bike but I was using it for XC blasts in the woods, not trips to the Alps.
Gary Fisher Rig - 2 firsts for me... 29er and Singlespeed. Put an Alfine hub on it after 1 ride, and replaced the frame with something else fairly shortly after.
On One inbred 29er - inherited all the kit off the Rig. Heavy but stable, and less fragile than the (already abused when I bought it) Rig.
Maverick Durance - bought the last one officially imported into the UK at a knock down price to replace the ML7. Superb bike, still own it now although it's not been ridden in a while.
Cotic BFe - had listed after one for years, finally bought one 2nd hand for a good price. Found it ridiculously unforgiving, and didn't gel with it at all. Sold it on quite quickly.
Giant Defy 2 Road Bike - the first road bike I actually rode properly. Bought it to replace 2 MTB's as having been made redundant, I decided I needed to make the hobby somewhat less expensive. Took some time to get used to it, but ended up enjoying road riding with this bike.
Genesis Altitude Ti - Loved the steel version so much, I kept it for a while when I bought the Ti version to replace it just in case. Fortunately the Ti version didn't disappoint, and served me well for a few years.
Holeshot steel HT - bought mega cheap and built on a very tight budget as a mess about bike. Rode it like 4 times. Still have the frame though all the components are long gone.
Merida Scultura Road Bike - My first carbon bike. Did a fair few miles on This inside the 18 months I had it. Started to realise road riding was a lot more fun on a decent bike!
Kona Kahuna Deluxe - Bought cheap as a stop gap HT, ended up being one of my favourite bikes to date! My 3rd 29er, but the first one I got on with. Heavily upgraded over standard, did 12hr solo at Bonty 24/12 on it, my first ever go at a solo, and came 14th out of 60 odd!
Kinesis Sync Ti - was already waiting for this one when I bought the Kona, hadn't expected it would take as long as it did. Superb bike once it arrived though, I did spend some money speccing it up mind!
KTM Revelator Road Bike - in the 18 months I've had this, it's been through about 6 sets of wheels, 2 groupsets, various bars/stems/seatposts/saddles and is now knocking in at 7.2kg with full SRAM Red and Reynolds wheels. Best road bike I've ridden still, and I've ridden a number of high end exotica over the years.
Whyte Dorset - Superb winter road bike. Heavy but supremely comfortable and dependable with full guards, 28c tyres and disc brakes.
Whyte T-129 Works SCR - Bought as an (expensive) stop gap whilst I waited for another bike that was going to take months to arrive. Superb agressive geometry for a 29er, but piss poor rear tyre clearance.
Evil The Following - probably the longest I've ever waited for a bike! Thank god it lived up to the hype though, as I had to buy the T-129 to keep me going for a good few months in the meantime! Still got it as my main bike, won't be going anywhere any time soon...
Kona Taro - bought 2nd hand off this forum, built it to my own spec, rode it a few times. Didn't gel with it, now has been stripped to sell the frame on...
Saracen Avro - recently bought as a new lighter weight winter road bike, but not yet ridden for one reason or another. Upgraded with 1x11 hydraulic SRAM groupset, will be hoping to get some serious miles in on this over the winter.
Whyte 629 - bought last week to replace the Taro. Stripped it for the frame, and currently rebuilding with most of the parts off the Taro. Will be my main MTB through the muddy winter.

Like I say there's definitely a select few I've forgotten, not including the select few that I've built up and then changed my mind and sold before I even rode them!

Too late to edit:-

Ghost AMR 2955 - far from unforgettable, actually a surprisingly good short travel 29er FS bike. It's late, I should be in bed, forgot I'd had that one at the same time as the Sync...
Raleigh Strada 2 hybrid - bought stupidly cheap in the vein idea I might use it to commute to work, or as a pub bike. Got used for both maybe 3 times. Somebody else wanted it and wanted to pay me more than I bought it for, so off it went...

1980 - Hand-me-down red girls bike with solid rubber tyres

1982 - S/H Raleigh Tomahawk

1984 - knackered S/H Raleigh Chopper

1988 - Townsend 27" 'racer' that I smeared in Niromors then spray painted white. Fitted it with Suntour thumb shifters and Bullmoose handlebars.

1989 - Falcon Sierra - Hammerited it green and got my LBS to build me a wheel using a 3 speed hub taken off the Chopper (think pre-Rolholf all-weather bike).

1989 - Bianchi Avanti MTB. Hi-tensile steel at it's finest.

1990 - Mongoose Iboc Pro. Bl**dy good bike actually.

1992 - Kona Kilauea frame that I built up using some of the parts from the dented and abused Mongoose.

1997 - Italian built Columbus steel + Campy road bike I bought off some mug for £70. Crashed it badly and ended in hospital. Karma.

2000 - Kona Cindercone

2002 - Santa Cruz Superlight.

2003 - On-One Pompino built up as a commuter

2004 - Intense Tracer. Discounted frameset. Bloody nice bike.

2006 - S/H Brompton for commuting on the train.

2009 - Cotic Soul.

2011 - A frameset so terrible I'd rather not talk about it. Never buying anything from those shysters ever again.

2013-Now - Surly 26" LHT

2014-Now - Surly Karate Monkey Ops.

2016 - Litespeed T3 fitted with Ultegra everything inc. wheels.

I've not had many really.

The past:

Circa 1980 - A little purple thing
Couple of years later - A BMX, no idea of make or model.
Sometime in the 80’s - A Raleigh road bike, it was orange thats all i know
Late 80’s - A Raleigh styler mag BMX, loved that bike.
1990 ish – A Townsend MTB (for about 6 weeks) bag of shite!

Long period with no bike (which coincided with me moving to Halifax!!)…..

1999 Raleigh Dyna Tech MTB
2003 GT Avalanche
2010 Orange Five
2012 On one inbred 29er
2013 Btwin triban 5
2013 On one inbred 26”

The present:

Ragley Blue Pig
Planet X London Road
Commencal Meta AM

1997 Specialized Rockhopper cromo (didn't have it long because it was stolen).

1997 Kona Koa - first forray into suspension with Judt XC's
1997 Cannondale SV500
1996 Marin Bear Valley (at the same time as the SV500, small as a jump bike)
1997 Marin Mount Vision (Z1's, Hope Big 'Un's, Maguras etc)

Had an MTB hiatus at this point and skateboarded / rode BMX - 2001 Fly Estampida which was nicked whilst at Uni. Back to MTB...

1999 Specialized FSR
2001 Kona Stinky
2003 Specialized Big Hit
XXXX Planet X Jumping Jack Flash (bought as a cheapo jump bike to go with the Big Hit)
1999 Santa Cruz Chameleon (replaced the Planet X)
2005 Demo 9 to replace the Big Hit
2001 Kona Stinky - rebuilt as a trail bike and replainted
200X Norco Sasquatch (awful bike, didn;t last long)
2005 Orange Sub Zero (loved this bike but it cracked)
2007 Santa Cruz Chameleon (one that fitted, trail bike)
2001 Kona Stinky (rebuilt again as a plpay bike with 66's)
2007 Solid Flair
2005 Orange Patriot 66 (bought to repalce the Chameleon and Solid - hated it).

Another MTB hiatus due to hating the 66 so much.

2005 Specialized SX Trail...loved this so much!
200X Specialized P1 - awful thing
XXXX GT Lopes 4x. Rode really well but hated the way it looked
XXXX Intense Tazer HT to replace the Lopes. Loved it but it cracked
2012 Cotic BFE. Didn't really love it
2013 Banshee Rune V2. Awesome, awesome bike but overkill.
2013 Specialized Allez
201X Stanton Slackline 853...loved it. A lot but too small.
2015 Stanton Switchback 631. Awesome.
1994 Cannondale Beast of the East - inherited from an uncle and is (very slowly) being turned into a single speed.

The Rune has now been sold and the Switchback is joing it. Both have just been replaced by a Ti Slackline
