Well if Dango and 12 are putting their bikes up, I'm going to as well. Orange (strange) Alpine Five, TALAS forks, etc. It now has Maxxis tyres because although the Michelins gripped really well, the sidewalls were made out of tissue paper

Dangoo - weighing components is a slippery slope! Been there....although it is very effective. I shed loads of weight off my SX when I realised how heavy some of the components were. My Diabolus cranks and A frame pedals weight more than my house.

I_Ache - you know that you need I to spring, don't blame me! On a serious note, if you need to shed some weight it should make a difference. That spring in there will weight loads; the dinky springs I have left over from the Van R in my old stinky weigh enough so his knows what that thing weighs.

With regards to measuring sag, you''ll need to get your missus to get the tape measure out whilst you mount... 😉 the bike!

My Heckler has just earned its stripes in Morzine/Les Gets last weekend!!

The Marz55 160's and offset bushings really slackened it out nicely.

At one point on a 50k AM loop I was really wishing Mindmap3 hadn't talked me into a single ring on the front!!!!

Dan, you know it makes sense. Don't blame me for your weedy legs! It looks good though, how slack is it now with the offest bushes?

Dango I thought my cranks were heavier than that tbh. But swapping them for slx and putting a Ti spring on will save over 1lb.

Mindmap the thing is I don't know where else I can/would want to save weight without spending loads or compromising the bike. If I had loads of money I would go for some carbon rims. But then it I had loads of money I would buy a Stumpy Evo carbon and a DH bike.

Ti spring should be a good saving over the steel one, the cranks will yeild a pretty good one too depending on what you go for.

What about pedals? I know you've got Straitline ones which are lovely but I've no idea what they weigh. My Nano's are 200g lighter than the A frames they replaced, which is quite a lot.

Other than that you're into the realm of marginal (expensive) gains I guess. Carbon bar? Posher cassette? Tubeless? The Charge saddle is quite heavy but lighter saddles ain't cheap and some are like torture devices.

I know I've only had a quick pedal on it, but it seems to ride quite lightly (if that makes any sense at all).

I seem to be one of a few who prefer a slightly heavier bike! Just feels nore substantial, light bikes feel too fragile.

Medium Heckler with RS Lyrik coil forks. Runs a Fox RC coil shock now. Mostly SRAM X9/X0 2x10 drive train, Hope Hoops, M4 brakes and finishing kit. A smattering of Thomson to finish it off. Not the lightest bike, but it's very reliable and great fun to ride.

I agree to a point. I think the 30lb mark is about the difference between feeling too light and feeling tough enough. As mindmap says mine pedals lighter than it feels to lift. If I could make it a couple of lbs lighter I would be pretty happy.

Mine is no lightweight and nor was my SX. The thing that made my SX feel beter was lighter wheels and tyres. My Eastons with tubeless Hans Dampfs were around 600g lighter than my old wheel and tyre combo and are probably as tough if not tougher. The SX felt loads more spritely after this change.

Although changing forks, cranks, pedals and chain guide lost a big chunk of weight you couldn't feel it outdo on a ride.

My Rune is about a pound heavier than the SX but is actually quicker to ride due to better geometry, a better fir for me, better suspension for pedalling and like the newer Enduros pedlas lighter than it is. I know it's not massively scientific, but Igor round the Dog and Monkey at Cannock loads quicker than I have done previously and was keeping pace with guys on my lighter bikes on the climbs and flat bits.

I'm really happy with the Rune, it seems to be quiet adept at covering some distance but is also really good fun on the descents and jumps. Sure it's probably a bit burly but I'm happy on it and would be more than happy doing an uplift day or two on it.

It surprises me ow happy people are with heavy vies. I find it really odd when full DH bikes are now sub 35 lb that trail bikes like these aren't much lighter. My Old metal intense with 140 travel weighed 26lb so why with so much carbon now are these bikes nt significantly lighter when compared to DH bikes?

I think 30lbs is about right, much lighter and it just doesn't feel right to me. And heavier isn't such an issue. Lugged my 38lb Bullit all around Whistler and up Snowdon no problem. This is my "all mountain" bike - obviously the emphasis is on dh but it can climb a bit with the seat up. Thinking I may 1x10 it and get some kind of dropper post so it's better for other stuff. And maybe a lighter fork.

My Shiny new Bronson C. Absolutely amazing bike, replaces my Blur LTc that was knicked a couple of months back (on insurance).

Fells like a much more sorted bike than the Blur (slacker head angle will help i`m sure). It is so confidence inspiring on the downs and still climbs bloody well (it does only weigh 28lb). Love it....

It's because most people can't afford to spend £8k on a bike that is light and strong.

Gwins session 9.9 from last year was 36lbs, and was the lightest on the circuit, so not sure where you get sub 35 from? Got pics of your old metal intense weighing 26lbs?

Just immagine how much less it could be if there wasn't the spare 16 miles of brake hose!!! 😉

so not sure where you get sub 35 from?

iirc someone on the tv said Peatys V10c was 32ld.

There are as alway some optimistic figures on this thread, an accurate set of scales would break a few harts.

There are some pretty light DH rigs out there these days, but realistically how many people are going to drop £8k on a carbon V10 with Enve wheels etc?

There are some really nice bikes on this thread that have no doubt cost a fair chunk, but I'm guessing not close to the price of carbon Demo's, V10's etc.

Best bike I've owned and I've had quite a few. Not the lightest but it's so much fun. No idea what it weighs but it goes up and down just fine.

Can you send me the original sized photo mate. We have an A3 printer at work so I can use that and put it on the wall in my shed next to my framed signed Steve Peat underpants.

My 224 in its everyday spec is sub-38lbs IIRC, there's AM bikes out there that are heavier and it's not an exotic build. There's a lot of the key weights that aren't that different- an AM bike can justifiably wear dualplies for some folks, my coil Lyriks aren't that much lighter than my Boxxers, the wheels on the 224 used to be in the Hemlock (Flows on Pro 2s), the brakes are identical. Dual drivetrains, dropper posts.

Well, finished's probably not the right word 😉 But yah. It weighed even less for the 6 months I was building the thing.

Gwins session 9.9 from last year was 36lbs, and was the lightest on the circuit, so not sure where you get sub 35 from? Got pics of your old metal intense weighing 26lbs?

I wish I had. My lbs did it on some park digi scales but I didnt have a camera or my phone with me!!! D'oh. It also cost less than half the £8k current superbikes cost.

As to the weight, Santa cruz quote sub 35lb for a V10 for an off the peg customer bike without carbon rims. Add carbon rims, Ti springs, air forks, carbon bars etc. plus any other team issue stuff and its not hard to see how they could loose the extra weight.

Also isnt a stock Mondraker Summum under 36 lbs?

Blur LTc for me.
Fox 36 floats, just fitted some 750mm Easton Havoc carbon bars and a MRP 2x Bashguard.
Weighs in at 30.6lbs.
I'm loving the look of the new Bronson C and i'm itching to try one, read nothing but good reports.
If only i had £6k (or a credit card with a £6k limit).

Here's my stealth bomber. 2006 Enduro, DHX coil, Marz 55s, a right mix of components from around the garage. No idea what it weighs, don't want to know it might scare me!

it works for me and withstands the daily trail abuse, so I'm a happy chappy.

The only Orbea here?

Not had it long, rides well, quite light. Got it cheap. Happy days. It has a shorter stem now. Cougar tyres are quite terrible.

Mine's in boxes in the dining room awaiting delivery of wheels and Cotic getting new stock of frames in.

Small Rocket
X-Fusion Slant 160s
Flow EX on Tesla hubs
Purgatory/The Captain
XT brakes (203/180)
X9 cranks
X9 type 2 rear mech (X0 shifter)
1x10 (34t/11-36)
LS1 chain device
Superstar Ultra Mag pedals
Funn Funnduro stem
Nukeproof Warhead 760mm 20mm rise bars
ODI Ruffian MX grips
Reverb
Charge Knife

Spreadsheet says 29lb based on Sicklines/Weight Weenies weights where possible, so I reckon anything under 31lb real world is good once I get it built.

Current bike is also probably 'AM' but without the both ends bounce.

XS BFe
Marzocchi 44 @ 150mm
Flows on Superstar Switch EVO
Purgatory/The Captain
XT brakes (203/180)
Race face Ride cranks
Superstar Nano pedals
X9 rear mech (ancient X9 gripshift)
1x9 (34t/11-34)
Superstar Plasma chain device
Ragley Stubbings stem
Nukeproof Warhead 760mm flat bars
ODI Ruffian grips
Reverb
Charge Spoon

Real world weight is pretty much dead on 29lb on (as far as I'm concerned) pretty accurate scales.

Me too. I still think they look great. I've just retired my SX Trail...

[IMG] [/IMG]

My only real issue was the slack seat tube; it made the bike feel like it want to wheelie up steeper climbers unless you adopted a super low, elbows out climbing position. Other than that, I great bike that I really enjoyed riding.

Replaced this (Mk 1 Nomad):

by Ewan Panter, on Flickr

With this:

by Ewan Panter, on Flickr

Basically because I wanted a yellow bike. To be honest the Mega climbs better and desends just as well which makes me question the price difference! I'll probably build the Nomad back up again at some point.

And one more of unpolished AM bike.... this time dangling under a helicopter 8)

This is my Zesty. Coil Lyriks, Push'd Van R out back. Most of the time its got 2.35 Minions on Flows, gravity dropper and now 1*10 with Zee and Silentguide. Travel wound down to about 145mm front and it'll go all day, albeit a bit lardy.

For uplift and alps holidays, stick on the 2.5 tyres and burly wheels, offset shock bushings to slacken it off a touch and wind the forks out to 160mm and its a pretty awesome bike.

Weight wise, I'd guess at 33-34lb in normal guise, 36-37lb when done up for have a go downhill.
