Any tips regarding easing the fitting of the snap ring that secures the sprocket to an 11 speed alfine hub?
Thanks
Small screwdriver, variety of swear words, lever it on like a tyre.
The swearing is the important bit.
Agree with Ian, though there are some clips on U-tube just to be sure you're doing it right which helped me with mine.
Okay this is from memory...
Kneel on the floor with the wheel jammed between floor and wall, i did mine with a tyre on and inflated so minimising slip potential.
Hook on end into the groove and hold it there with one hand. Then with a small flat bladed screw driver wedged between ring and lip of groove like a tyre lever then just pull it round tweeking it downward if required. Basically because you have hooked one end the screwdriver it just forcing the ring into a larger diameter I swore lots then did it like that and it took maybe 30secs start to finish.
I found it was more of a one swift movement than and lever and move rou d a wee bit as it just pops out when you trh and move it.
Be carefulit does t require much force if you are doing it right.
Thanks for your kind advice.
I upped the swearing and it finally went on.
The blood from my fingertip punctured by the screwdriver might have provided the required lubrication or maybe success with Alfine hubs requires a blood sacrifice?
Thanks again.
I like to use external clip pliers or " snap ring pliers" . Opens it up like a circlip , place it on and let go.
Used to use external circlip pliers
