I'm new to the whole Alfine set up and appear to have a fairly frayed cable at the hub adjuster.

Can anyone offer any advice on replacing the cable please?
Is it a specific Alfine cable or a standard barrel end cable?
How do I get in to the trigger shift?

Thanks!

It is a normal gear cable and you change it like you would with any rapidfire shifter. There should be a large grub screw between the levers. Take that out and click the shifter until you see the head of the cable. Then it should just push out from the back.

Search online for the alfine user guide, it's a one page pdf. It tells you where to install the cable stop, I can never remember if it's 101 or 105mm from the end of the gear outer
