I have a 26" Rocket and could swap the parts over but would it be rideable?
My forks are 26" 160mm Pikes, cranks are 170mm and my dropper is 30.9
Edd says he can't endorse or advise it but it might work. They themselves did for a dual slalom but obviously that's very different to trail riding?
Daft idea?
Not on Facebook these days so can’t check but there is an AirDrop owners group on there, sure someone on there did it and ran a single speed edit but I can’t remember now
Thank you I'll get on it
I can't see why it wouldn't work, I've been using 26" in my Switchback since I got it, and had the same 26" stuff in a Flare, Rocket 275, BFe 275 and a Cube Stereo 140. The sky didn't fall on my head at all or anything. It's just wheels.
I've asked on the owners group.
Kayla, my concern was that it was already low without me dropping it further.
I run my Capra with 26" wheels (similar sort of geo and BB drop) as I thought the BB was too high with the stock 27.5s and I just prefer the handling of 26"
It corners better and has far closer to a DH bike's geometry now. (why I bought a very progressive 170mm bike in the first place)
If I was going to do the same with an airdrop I'd personally stick a -2deg headset in as well.
If you aren't decent at looking ahead and timing your pedal strokes a low BB can be a struggle but it'll make you a better rider if you persevere.
You'll be fine, it's not that low 🙂 The Cube I had is lower than the Airdrop 😉
It's not really low at all. Very few bikes are.
I am going to go look at it tomorrow and take my bike along to see how it looks next to the frame. Thanks folks.
Before I bought the Capra I stuck a set of 26" wheels on a mates. Looking at it and sitting on it wasn't enough to make the decision. Infact it almost put me off as his shock/fork pressures were considerably less than mine and the far lower sag points were actually too low.
I bought one anyway and rode it every day for 2 weeks with the 27.5s on every terrain possible to make sure I knew how it handled everything as spec'd. The day I fitted the 26" wheels and tyres (of similar spec/weight) i was instantly sold on the handling improvements (for me). What actually surprised me was the 27.5s whipped and drifted better than the 26s. I knew the 27.5s would roll slightly better in the rough but I'm never going to race it so don't care.
