OK set of wheels and values i've been using for the last 2 years with no problems (Stans values and Spank Ozzy 295s)

Replaced a tyre and air was escaping from the valve hole. Tried to tighten the value up but it was getting a bit daft as there is no way I'd get it undone on the trail if I needed to stick a tube in! It was still mildly leaking.

So replaced the tape (gorilla tape as I've always used) still was leaking, kept fiddling with the value and all of a sudden the air loss stopped, so about a week then all of a sudden one morning flat again.

So tried replacing all the tape again and a piece of old innertube as a washer between the value and rim.

STILL LEAKING!

I must be doing something wrong any ideas?

It's quite possibly NOT the valve hole - that's just the easiest place for air to escape. Check your tape overlap. If that's not stuck down well then air can get under that, into a spoke hole and out at the valve hole.  That can exhibit occasional success/failure depending on how your sealant tries to fill the hole.

Also - is your tubeless tape as wide/wider than the rim bed? If not then air could be getting under the tape at any point.

There is a big overlap, maybe I need to do 2 loops of the tape although might make getting the tyre on a bit trickier.

Yes appreciate the air might be exactly from the value, I suppose I could try another value too just in case the rubber bung (hope that makes sense) isn't seating properly.

Leaks at the valve were known issue when the original 28H Oozy 295s rims first came out - see MTBR forums I think.  Reported fixes were to put a rubber o-ring between the rim and the valve lock ring and/or urethane glue around the inside of the valve before tightening it completely (Shoe Goo, Evostik Serious Glue, Seam Grip, etc).  I did both when I first set them up and never had leakage issues in 3 years.

Interesting Iornholio I can try that. Its weird as I have two sets of wheels on the same rims and it's only just started.

Is the tape wall-wall or just a strip?

Just slightly over the strip, a few mm either side before the wall.
