what pisses you off more...?
the fact that your arm hurts and you think you may have chipped a bone in your elbow (where you already have a bit of floating bone) or that you've bent the handlebar? or, that you're not sure if you've bent the bar, but think you have meaning that you have to fork out ~60€ on a new bar because you bought some funky clever-dick design?
my arm hurts. i think my bars are bent. i'm going to watch midsomer murders on youtube....
if i crash i always try to ride what i crashed doing once i regognise what went wrong
Chipped bone would probably piss me off if it kept me off the bike for any length of time.
whats pissing me off after a fairly good crash a month ago is that now any steep rocky sections are freaking me out and i need to find my balls again!
rs, recognising what you did wrong will be the way
If the pain is mild enough that your thinking about the condition of the bike, then you're probably not badly injured.
have ridden the steps on the promenade so many times.... i know what went wrong this time: i tries to change line to not get in the way of the couple walking up the stairs. the front wheel washed out due to the sand that had collected there (was v. windy today) and i went umbling down two flights of stairs with the bike on top of me. i'm surprised that i came away with a bent rotor and (suspected) arm and bar damage.
and to top it, the GF went sailing past me and didn't care to stop. think she was a bit embarrassed.... so was i as i apologised to the slighty shocked, but very helpful swedish couple.
oh, and youtube connection is playing up.
Doesn't piss me off, makes me laugh more than anything. I live by a rule that if it don't feel right that day, even if I've rode it plenty times before, I'll leave it till the next time.
jedi, think it was just poor line choice on a section I had always walked before, but its affecting me on other stuff i have ridden before, think i just need a few more rides.
On another note, when you crash and after you hit the ground you freeze and then you realise nothing hurts, great feeling that is. I had such a one the other week, went through a muddy patch, with a hidden rock or something, over the bars i went, total somersault. took a second, but got up laughing my head off! I love that! 🙂
if i crash i always try to ride what i crashed doing once i regognise what went wrong
for me it'd be getting on my bike.
I love crashing and not getting hurt - huge grin. The other kind I tend not to remember what happened.
had a relatively big off on tuesday. front wheel hooked up on a rock that wasa obscured by long grass (this is just after having said to a mate that the grass was really long and hiding babykopf rocks).
went over the bars and came down headfirst towards another rock. stuck my hand out and avoided the worst. shaken, but not stirred.
ok, so how do you check if your bar is bent? done the "looking at it" test and the "something straight alongside it to compare" test. still not sure. GF reckons it is ok. i'm not sure. but my elbow still hurts.
how much should it hurt. i mean, i've chipped some elbow bone before but was elsewhere (spatially speaking) at the time.
Managed to wreck my seat stay during a big crash on Sunday at Kirroughtree. Gutted.
This prob sounds stupid, but wounds heal, bars dont. As long as the bike isnt broken or bent, its ok. Havung said that, if I crash and I dont care if the bike is ok or not, ive clearly hurt myself....
at least 3 months off the bike with a bust heel(bike was fine)- and the weathers been glorious for the 1st month!
any bit of your bike can be replaced in 24hrs- even a new frame even if you have to downgrade or go s/h its better than a serious injury
Thing that pisses me off the most is the next 2 weeks* spent riding like a gaylord until the confidence comes back.
*at an average riding rate, annoyingly it doesn't kick in until the next ride so usually results in more crashes that day!
What SHOULD piss you off is that your therapy consists of watching Midsomer Murders on Youtube.

the fact that your arm hurts and you think you may have chipped a bone in your elbow (where you already have a bit of floating bone)
What you need to do is really open it up and then the bits of bone will come out, like this!

Floating bits of bone were done in the Lake District & then I did a Superman to flat about a year later & ripped it open = no bits in my elbow that hurted any more 😉
Bike damage and injuries are annoying but the loss of confidence is worst! I can usually tell where I went wrong now but still don't get the full confidence back for a long time. Still scared of riding at western park over a year later 😆
Havung said that, if I crash and I dont care if the bike is ok or not, ive clearly hurt myself....
this is definately when its time to worry
Much more worried about damage to me
last off preompted a fork service £80
time to build up another bike during service
Physio £38
Feeling or mortality, might be useful
Lesson learnt
Too much time a trail centres where trails are engineered to a standard and local trails that I know well
The real world has surprise that you shouldn't arrive at fast and unprepared for. Riddden a bit slowler the trail was easy (as my son demonstated)
^^^
my reasoning exactly.... the cost of fixing me is relatively low compared to the cost of having to put the bike right.
elbow still hurts. will get the bike checked over tomorrow....
oh, and nice work mrovershoot...!
Mr Overshoot - did exactly (almost) the same thing! Fell badly and landed on my right elbow. Had a bit of floating bone which hurt like hell every time I put my arm on (say) a car armrest for the next few years.
Eventually fell over in a drunken stupor, split my elbow open and the bit of bone must have popped out! No more pain. Grand.
crashing is part of riding, it is the point where you learn the limits of your skill and ability. When I first started biking I learned how and when to get off.
That said why would it bother you when you crash, run through it in your mind come to understand what you did wrong and then develop the skills you need, braking, attach possition, cornering, shouting at people to get out the way in an authorative manner.
When you do something in life you have to be commited mentally and physically, if you are distracted by doubts and fears when you ride you are less focused, if you are less focused you are more likely to crash.
Clear your mind and simply ride to the best of your ability!
If its OTB due to jumping incompetence then I KNOW I wont dare to lift over anything for the next 6 months. Thats what does my head in and is exactly what happened 6 months ago (bent my bars on that one too) and I have been terrified of lips and drops since 🙁
Conversely, I smacked a lamppost with my bar on the way home from work the other day sending my flying through the air in spectactular fashion. I dusted myself down and didnt give it a second thought
looking down at the front wheel when things start to go wrong, following a friend down a hill despite initial hesitation 'cos he said it was easy ("just stick to the right, andy did it on his bike") and not walking it first...
both sure-fire ways of ending up in s spinal board for 6 hours and being off the bike for weeks with a fractured shoulder.
*feeling sorry for myself but know it was self-inflicted*
heartbreaking timing as mrsconsequence has been inspired by her soon-to-come jedi day to get out in the woods much more and build up her fitness.
I came off on Monday and knocked myself out. Can't remember what I did wrong as I can't remember the entire day. Still dizzy today, won't be on the bike for a bit
I had a big OTB on Mon at C-Y-B, broken left thumb and swelling around nerve endings in base of spine = couple of weeks off bike (according to Physio) = me being a misery...although the bike was ok so maybe it's not so bad
