You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm planning to be south Wales for a few days at end of May. I know there have been quite a few closures and diversions at Afan recently so wondered what its like at the moment. Probably most interested in the The Wall and or White's Level.
Has anyone ridden these lately and if so, are there many diversions? Are the diversions good or are they just fireroads?
thanks
Y Wal is now fully open except for the darkside section due to fallen trees i believe.
Yep, I was there on Thursday - Y Wal is now fully open, as are Stage 4 and Zig Zags. Not sure what White's Level is like now though
Y Wall had one small closure on it last weekend at the top near the 'bike park'. From the above post that sounds like its open again. It's a long time since I've been but there, but there were fewer trees than I remember on the final descent. The trail itself had had some fresh spade work and was running fast. It also looked like the black alternative to the final descent on Y Wall had been worked on.Â
We tried to ride Penhydd but the top half was closed with a diversion. We also rode Blue Scar which was fully open.Â
Nice - thanks everyone. 👍Â
Afan Lodge has shut up shop sadly. Like to visit once a year but not sure where's best to stay now. It's great to hear that some work is going on with the trails though. Always preferred it to CYB.
I rode Y Wal this weekend. There's still a diversion on the darkside section from what i could see, so unfortunaltey you follow a fire road after 373 to the entrance of Zig-Zag - which after being re-done is a great descent.
As above, the final zig zag descent is really, really good. The closure on Graveyard is due to a load of trees down towards the end of that section of the trail, almost at the mountain centre jump park.Â
I plan to ride Afan this Monday (in the rain as is tradition) but I haven't been there for about 10 years. I'm trying to save time by not going to Glyncorrwg and so will be going from the Afan visitor centre. I have about 4 hours and so was thinking Y Wal and then either Blue Scar or Penhydd depending on my fitness and the weather. Is there much still there these days and are the trails fully open? I seem to remember it rides ok in the rain but are some better than others?Â
Ywal has one diversion from what I've seen on FB. The last decent has been reworked this year and is good fun.
