I'm meeting up with a couple of old mates at afan next weekend. We used to go regularly many moons ago but we haven't been for about 7 years. Is it still the hive of activity it used to be ?

Hmm, probably not going to be as busy at it was 7 years ago, there's more way marked stuff in South Wales now and nationally which mean it has to share more of its audience, plus there was a long time when to ride The Wall you had to take a long detour along some boring walking path and a lot of people worked out you could park in another car park (for free) and miss the detour.

Some trails have gone since you were last there and some come back and there's a new one or two.

Possibly the biggest change you'll notice is that because of a tree fungus problem they've felled a lot of the trees, most of not all of the larch is gone just leaving a few pockets of native trees, grass and ferns have taken over now so it doesn't look like a war zone like it had for the last 2 years, but it's changed the character of the trails a lot, not only the look of them, but without the trees the soil is mostly gone from the trails leaving just the rock so they're rougher than they used to be.

Bloody brilliant. Trails have matured well, easy to link (or, loop) all the good bits with a bit of map reading, skills park has loads of lines, plus all the off piste tech stuff, and it's quiet.
