Good news, chaps!

He also admitted that the Giant aero water bottle mounted to the rear of the saddle was actually empty – it was just there to reduce aerodynamic drag. Instead, Shubert used a 2.5-litre Camelbak water bladder in the front of his skinsuit. According to Shubert, this also has a drag-reducing effect – up to 4 watts at race speed – and he even blew air into it after taking drinks during his ride, to maintain its inflated shape and maximise the effect.

That's a 70 tooth chainring on my Chopin Lizst, then. I already have the aero body mods

I read his mech failed and he rode in 1 gear, losing him 5 minutes

I have used an electrolyte gut on my 12 hour TTs for the past few years. Aero gains and always drinking. Bit of a squeeze to zip it up and feels very odd, but drinking regularly is what matters. The 1.5L platypus bladders are the best if you are interested. I uses SIS tablets in them. I don’t inflate mine.

One geek point, it’s an RRA record for one way ride these are ridden with optimal tailwind, so aero is good, but tailwind will counter some of the aero issues as the fluid is moving slower. TT 100 miles control for wind direction so will be slower. But still over 30 mph average. The gain is about 10% so worth about 30% on the effort stakes.

Shoobs is a modest legend.

I love good bodgineering. What a brilliant effort.

That's about 3 times faster than I can do a century. Maybe I need to work on my beer gut... 🙂

The route he was on didnt look much fun at all.

Seems a bit of a pointless record to me, one direction, wind behind, slightly down hill, on a dual carriageway utilising non uci equipment

With all that in mind, he only needed 285 watts to average 33 mph. On my local tt route 285 watts got me around 26 mph!

Like TiRed up there ^ I also use the bladder down the front of my skin suit for 12hr and 100 mile TT’s. Works well (although it does make you look like a right fat knacker)

RRA have a long and esteemed history of distance records. Not all are out and back. Lejog is the one that just fell. But there are some town-to-town ones too. They predate dual carriageways.

I actually like the fact he's been able to use a bit of ingenuity to get the record rather than just outright fitness! Also bonus points for non-uci 😃
