Doesn't look like that'll take a front mech.

I'm out.

Interesting. I didn't think it'd be along so soon.

If this is a 29er frame I'll really struggle to say no...

It's got bendy tubes. I'm out.

Looks nice that. Bottle cage in the right place, metric shock. Gotta be a 29er surely, the Aeris is 140-150.

Unless it's a replacement

Must be the mk2 650b model.

Ben hinted a while back they were doing a 29er HT first. And 145mm would be a lot of travel for a 29er.

I never could get past the front mech mount on the original Aeris.
Sorry, scotroutes.

Replacement Aeris due 'by March'. Looks like it could be that.

Replacement Aeris I suspect. Much more aesthetically pleasing than Mk1!

Is it not the 120mm travel aeris?

Oops says 145 on the stickers

Looks a lot better than the old Aeris. An unforgivably bad looking bike.

Strange isn't it. I've got the mk1 and one of the reasons I have it is because I love the way it looks. Think the bends take something away from that utilitarian, no nonsense look that is part of the appeal.

New aeris @ 145mm rather than changeable from 140 to 150

bottle cage. do the chain stays have a slightly steeper angle to make the rear end stiffer? boost rear end? and got rid of the front mech mount? i can't justify one as i only just bought an aeris a couple of months ago

Oh, I like that. One of the things that out me off the mk1 was the lack of bottle mounts.

I'd rather have a straight downtube in terms of looks but it's hard to fit a bottle within the front triangle like that. It was the larger size Aerii that looked a bit gawky due to the brace between seat mast and top tube.

If this is a 29er then Bird have my attention.

I love the look of the Mk1, best looking FS bike I've seen in a long time.

I've got a Mk1 Aeris and like my straight downtube, one of the (minor) reasons I got it. How (I genuinely ask) can that top/seat tube gusset be as strong as the big brace on the original?

If they (ever) do a 110-120 FS 29er then I'll be flinging my dosh at the Nest once more!

Never fussed by the bottle cage thing, but obviously it matters to lots of folk. On the sort of terrain the aeris demands does the bottle not just pop out of the cage?

It might not be as strong, good chance the original was overbuilt (not a bad idea for your launch model)

Indeed, don't think it is though

Not with a decent cage, see the many bottles being used at EWS rounds (or any race)

The triangular brace would definitely be stiffer - but you could thicken up the material in the new version to get the strength equally high and still save weight. Losing weight and stiffness in that area is a good thing.

Not with the right cage (or a cageless bottle). I was sceptical too until I tried it!

Whatever it is, nice to see Bird not resting on their laurels. Like my Aeris very much, but a bottle cage would be a definite bonus.

Cant see it being a 29er. I reckon its the mk3, the mk2 is currently available. The mk2 is similar to the mk1 but a stiffer chainstay, different rear axle and no front mech mount

'Mk2' is not Mk2, it's 'Mk1.5'. I agree it's not a 29er. I just want a 29er!

Webpage for it now up

Geometry looks good, weight looks good, proper bottle cage mount, price looks good (how much is a shock?).

Thumbs up!

Very nice. Aggressive geometry for a 145mm bike - 65.5 deg HA with a 150mm Pike, long reach and wheelbase and short seat tubes for long dropper posts.

A medium is almost identical geometry to an XL Nomad but with a seat tube 85mm shorter!

Lucky it's a boost rear and different shock size to my current bike or it could be a tempting purchase at that price.

Looks great ... but to be fair I liked the look of the mk1 aeris as well, but more importantly I loved the way it rode and it's great value for money, plus the great customer service from the Bird boys.

I'm looking to get a 120mm FS 29er trail bike within the next month or two and would love to see Bird make one , but I only read the odd rumour on this forum about it. Would be great if Ben could give us an idea of what new bikes may be on the horizon soon .... before I spend it on something else and regret it in 6 months or so.

@gaidong

From what I've read on here it looks like a 29er hardtail up first ... if rumours are true. Fingers crossed though as they're great bikes .

You'll notice the front page has just put up an alloy 29er 120mm full sus... by Niner. No pressure 😀

Be interesting if they can translate this into something like a 100-110mm 29" trail bike, of similar DNA.

There are enough head down, arse up short travel, 29" XC bikes out there - something reasonably priced with geometry aimed towards the fun end of the scale would be great.

Sort of like a Smuggler, but cheaper, and lighter 🙂

130mm 29er at that kind of price would have my money as fast as I can fill in the order forms. Come on guys, please.

Let's print some placards and have a Bird 29er FS demonstration at the Nest!

Yes, another vote for a short-travel FS 29er please.

430mm chainstays and reach of 460mm on the medium. I'll leave the HA up to you. 125mm travel would be my choice, but I'm flexible if that impacts CS length

Well, it's worth a try, eh?

😀

PS. Yes, new frame is a handsome effort.

This will be the reason they replied to my question about small Aeris frames yesterday that they said they wouldn't have any until March!

Echoing the above, a 29er with similar geo and 130mmish travel will have me selling any organs necessary.

That just made choosing between the Aeris 120 ad 145 difficult, I can't imagine that the weights will be much different.

There will be a weight difference due to the 145 handling a 160mm fork - but the bigger difference is geometry, with the 145 being 2 degrees slacker with a 160mm fork, and the feel of the extra travel.

Hmm, adjustable travel on the 29" then 110-130 please! 😆

2 models 20mm travel apart would work, just like the 650b options. And having specced it for them I think we can ask for a discount. 🙂

Then I wouldn't be able to choose!

Unless one were made from CF...

Yeah another vote for a 29" bike, I would love to support Bird. I'm currently on a xl nukeproof scout 290 with a 66 degree head angle.

What we need is a Zero TR 29, I need a winter bike now but I'm really enjoying the bigger wheels at the minute!

What we need is a Zero TR 29,

That's what my money is on for their first big-wheel frame.

Definitely a shortage of 29er HT frames with sorted geometry.

I think you mean the brace that's joining the seatstays? Stiffer than just having separate stays meeting either side of the link that drives the shock.
