Looks good, shame the techy rock bit on granny green luv is gone. Looks like the feel of the trails will be totally different - whether that's a good thing or a bad thing I'm not sure.

Excellent, GGL looks wicked. Amazing how different shredder looks since they napalmed the landscape.

I know others will think I'm mad, but I love Ae red route. It just makes me smile every time.
I'm keen to go and try this lot out - hoping for an invite from the trail builder team leader himself...

I've not ridden it ever, but have to agree with the above.

Stop making everything into a carpeted roller coaster!

I want rocks and roots, I want <5mph crawling hanging on trying to pick my way through things using hope and guesswork

To be fair, Ae has plenty of tech on the off piste stuff, it's good to see some money being spent on the official trails, they were a bit half arsed originally, and haven't had much love over the years.

There's still plenty of rough and un-maintained stuff at Ae, fret not.

Granny Green Love was done last year and a vast improvement - the old section was great, but raggedy as hell and significantly rougher and bouldery'er than the average trail centre Red. Now, it's fast, flowing and really, really good fun.

Looking forward to a blast down the new Shredder - might even get a shot tomorrow if things work out.

Rambo first blood, now that made me laugh and cry in equal measure. It's a >5kph ride in places.

@NoBeer - Dumfries, fella.

@One100 - I helped build it and still walk 75% of the thing! 😀

I always think the same thing about Ae- it's basically 4 corners of a really good trail centre, where they didn't fill in the edges. I think that's more or less historically true too, there was supposed to be more that got cut?

I keep saying I won't ride it again (but I'll totally do the dh and the bloody magnificent offpistes) but now I want to try this new bit, aaargh.

We're heading to Ae on Tuesday. Went a few years ago and my memory of it was a hard slog in shocking weather.

Is the red worth doing?

I might get brave and try the shredder, I won't be doing the road gap though.

Anything else there that's not too hardcore?

Cheers

Get trailforks on your phone, ask Cubb in the shop to suggest trails at your level, he'll sort you out.

There's lots that's better than the red.

https://www.trailforks.com/region/forest-of-ae/

If you're there for a 7pm start on Tuesday, there'll be at least 2, usually 3 different groups heading out from the shop that'll be more than happy to show you around.

If you're there earlier than that, I'd say there's more of the less-balls-out type of trails to be found on the Green Hill side of the valley (on TrailForks, look for the area where HP Sauce/RMS/Toddy's all run from).

The Quarry top & middle sections are much steeper than the Bottom bit (which is lovely and nice to finish on if you've just done RMS or Toddy's).

That's not to say the Downhill/Shredder end hasn't got plenty of nice stuff to play on, it's just a longer run to get there and I don't know what most of the runs there are actually called when I'm stood looking at the start of them.

only bit I did of the trail centre was the DH track. used trailforks to find the off piste stuff.

Cheers all, didn't go this time but might do in a few weeks.

Went to Dalbeattie instead as I needed to drop in to Castle Douglas anyway. Did the slab for the first time so pretty happy with that 🙂

I can't see how they can label the shredder as an introductory dh track now, as they have raised the take off lip on the road gap by about 2.5 feet and increased the landing point, also added more larger doubles (where I have witnessed bikers actually casing their landings), to me it's an accident waiting to happen that will catch out the inexperienced bikers...... this is just an observation and not a whinging auld git sounding off....LOL
