Me and my girlfriend who is new to cycling at going to Castle Douglas tomorrow for a week. We are near to Ae, Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie and Mabie. Where would be best for us both to have a bit of fun and where wouldn't be so soaking wet she'll never come riding with me again?
Advise much appreciated...
Please no comments on going to all four of them as she'll never buy into that!

Scotland, and the western side - its green for a reason...
I didn't like Ae at all, not been to the others.
If the GF is new to cycling you will probably be sticking to blue routes?
Now lots of people dislike Ae, at least those who post on here but being one of my local trails and having spent a fair few hrs chatting to people in the cafe when it was open there are many more who like it. So there 😆
The blue and green routes are mostly forest road or smooth single track, some of it running beside the river. There is a cracking new descent which has recently been added and is ideal for beginners 😀
The route I took a "newbie" last week was; red route to the end of Granny Greenlove. Turn right on forest road and follow this to junction. Cross junction onto road straight ahead(blue route) Nothing to catch any beginner out, just a fair bit of climbing.
Mabie is probably the next one I would suggest, again most of the blue is on forest road but the red is easy enough for a beginner if partner is patient 😉 Only section I would miss out is the Burn Splash/Scorpion unless GF is happy to push up the steep climb at the end
Not familiar with the other blue routes but Kirry is probably next best for a day out. Bike am, sight seeing pm 💡
Might have a spare hr or 2 on Tuesday 😉
In order of choice i'd ride blue route at Kirroughtree, Blue route at Glentrool (nice views, short but good fun) and Blue at Mabie forest - i wouldn't bother with Dalbeattie blue or Ae blue (but if you've time it's #4 on the list)
If you want any more advice or help and a coffee then pop into next level bikes in castle douglas (near post office) and introduce yourself, i'm working all day t'morn.
