Hi all.

Just being advised that one side of my rear Shimano hub is on its way out. So thinking of maybe a new set of wheels and use my old one on my turbo trainer.

Can't really stretch too expensive at the mo, but what's your advise on sticking with Shimano cup and cone hubs as opposed to more expensive sealed ones, as i've seen some good prices on Shimano's here and there ( and a couple of for sale threads on here ) !

I mostly ride xc and you trail centre's, nothing too aggressive.

Appreciate any advise.

Cheers.

It's an M525. Came standard on my xtc 1, a couple of years old.

My experience is that Shimano are fine if you service the rear every 2-3 months. Front ones go much longer between services. The big drawback is that the freehubs die after about a year and new ones are silly money.

Superstar are a good alternative if you're on a budget but they may need the (cartridge) bearings replacing before too long. The good news is that this is a quick and easy job.
