is it for race or a more general purpose machine?

Ibis Tranny?

There's a lovely green one hanging in a shop near me.

3 On Ones?

You could have a 456, a Whippet and a 29er for that money!

from what I've seen you get realtively poor value buying frame only fromt he big brands - you coudl buy their bottom of the range carbon build and sell the parts on and get the frame for less than list price in most cases.

this is a good example;

the frame's probably not far off that new.

Don't mean to steal your post but funnily enough vie just been contemplating the sale of a 21" Stumpjumper Carbon Marathon (2008 I think), its currently a full build with Sid teams, Formula K24's, SLX with Middleburn single front ring and XTR rear with a Pauls BB chain keeper (1x9) Have the original rings etc. Set of either Mavic Crossrides or Kore XCD's (or potentially Stans Crests on Hope ii's if the price is right).

Its absolutely mint, picked up the frame new last October from total fitness bath and built it up with new components since. Saw very little use over winter as is 2nd bike. just under 10kg on the bathroom scales.

Not sure of value but would certainly be within your budget 🙂

What is it that people find so disagreeable about the frame dimension stickers?

That pronghorn is nice. There is a large (20.5 inch) in my lbs on the wall for £850 I was looking at it before I bought my tranny,. Room for movement, on the price too I'm guessing as it's been there for a while. We weighed it before I bought my tranny and the large was 1003g on the park scales.

Have you looked at the Canyons? Frames aren't as good VFM as their full builds though.
