Hi all,
I've just purchased a set of DMR V8 pedals to install on Shimano Deore crank arms. It's look like the crank arms have a recess for a washer. In the instructions that came with the pedal it says to fit the pedals flush, if the arms have a recess then a washer must be fitted. I don't have any washers, is this necessary and if so can someone point me in the right direction for them for my crank arms.
Thanks
I’ve never had or used pedal washers on any Shimano cranks before, only on SRAM.
SRAM cranks come with them.
There's no flange on the spindle and if there's a sharp edge on the spanner flat it can gouge into the crank - take a file to the edge of the spindle to minimise the risk of damage.
Are you sure the spindle doesn't fit in the recess? Dumb, slightly insulting question I know. What's the model ref for the cranks?
Hello, thanks for replying - from the Nukeproof site it's Shimano M5100 Deore 10 Speed Crank. I'll attach a couple of pictures.
Dovebiker has it, the spanner flats on V8 pedals are exposed, and will gouge the crank arm. Trying to file edges off hardened steel will be a tough job, visit your LBS and get some washers (or e-mail me your adress, and i'll post you some).
^^👍
I've always used washers and Copper slip on the threads .
Always use washers, not because any manufacturer tells me to, but because it's good engineering practice, and a bit of anti-seize on threads.
Anti seize for sure! Forgot on one of my pedals and OMG was a pig to get out!
