After some advice, my kids are just getting into doing some easy trails on there bikes and now I'm looking to join them, the bike I have is about 10yrs old and pretty much fit for the scrap heap.

not looking to spend a huge amount around 300-400, would I be better buying a 'new' bike direct from shop or getting a good quality 2nd hand bike for the money?

kids are only 5 & 9 so won't be doing anything serious with them so reluctant to spend a massive amount.

thanks

That budget definitely second hand. Plenty of old good stuff about, especially 26 if you don't mind that, but some half decent 29 at that budget too.

Loads on the classifieds/eBay/Gumtree etc. Best advice is pick something local and get a ride on it first, don't get something off eBay and have it posted halfway across the country unless you're certain it's OK for you!

Wife got a Genesis Latitude a couple of years ago, mint condition, Recons and Deore everything for £300. You won't get anything as good new.

Thanks, I was thinking I'd be better going down the 2nd hand route, anything in particular I should look out for?
