I've agreed to support a freind who is running a route called the Cumbrian Traverse which as the name implies, takes a high level route from South to North Lakes taking in the Coniston Old Man, Bowfell, Great Gable as well as numerous other tops, finishing along the High Spy, Maiden Moor and Cat Bells ridge. As I'm in no way a Fell Runner, I want to bike it as much as is practical. The initial bit is fine over Walna Scar road etc but when I get to Honister Pass, is it possible to get up High Spy and down the ridge to Keswick without going straight to jail. It is likely to be early evening when we get to Honister, will there be hundreds of tutting red socks if it is a good day? The OS Map shows intermittant black dashed paths, implying that the status of parts of the route is unclear whereas most is definitely footpath. Firstly is it actually ridable and second will I get locked up?
Which bits are you planning to ride, as there's no way you'll keep up with him over most of it.
From Honister you can push/carry, then ride down the ridge to Keswick, but you won't be doing the same route or speed as him. Walkers will be no bother then - just be polite.
He's a she but still quite rapid and will have done 18 of the 21 tops by then, the riding bits of the route include Walna Scar, Stake Pass at the top of Langdale then up the road to Honister. The runner will take a more direct route but I'm working on catching her on the downhills.
