Some of you may remember (I doubt it) I was an early advocate of using 11 speed mechs for 10 speed wide range cassettes, way back when affordable aftermarket cassettes (Sunrace) allowed for it and not long after clutched mechs started to filter down to 10 speed.
Used to prefer Shimano mechs but have been less than impressed with the strength of the cages, which IME are easy to bend/twist and are more prone to damage. The CNC cage mods to old 10 speed mechs made them like tanks that could take an absolute pasting before throwing their hand in!
I like the look of the cage on Advent X mechs. It seems a bit more SRAM than Shimano in shape and the jockey wheels look like they have a deeper tooth profile.
So the question is, has anyone used an Advent X mech on a 11 speed drivetrain?
Doesn't work
I assumed it wouldn't (thick to thin) but have heard of people running some 10 speed components for 11 speed where tolerances aren't tight.
From the interweb rumour mills, allegedly the cable pull of SRAM 11 speed shifters is close enough for it to work.
The trouble is no bugger ever seems to fully confirm what they've tried and/or if it really worked.
