I've only ever had two sets of hydraulic disc brakes (both Shimano), so excuse my relative inexperience. The calipers (M595) are post mount and fitted on adapters to IS mounts on the frame and fork.
The calipers have some side-to-side play to adjust, but there's also a little up and down movement when the caliper is lose (about 1mm I'd guess). With the bike upright and/or in a stand the caliper sits on the lower bolt, however the rotor rotates upwards and away from the caliper and would naturally pull it into the upper bolt were it not held in place by the bolts. Should I be adjusting the caliper resting against the lower bolt or should I push it upwards into the top bolt before centering? It probably won't make any difference but I was wondering whether under hard braking the caliper might be pulled upwards a little and perhaps mis-align (although the bolts are done up nice and tight so it probably won't).
