im wondering which is best/the one to try?
any recommends?
I've just bought a gravity dropper, but it was the only one (I think) in 27.2. Real happy with it, and seems good quality. Not a great looker though, and only 3 positions, but tbh I only really wanted up or down.
Got a Gravity Dropper and a KSi900 - not had the GD as long but it seems much sturdier - the KS one has basically fallen apart.
I've got one of the KS i900 jobbies from superstar components. Seems about the best incarnation of the breed to me. Certainly does what it's supposed to do and feels better built than others I've tried.
Limited sizing (30.9 or 31.6) still at the moment, a 27.2 is coming out soon though I was told.
i900-r here. No problems so far (3 months), but not really gotten it filthy yet.
It usually needs a firm knock to get it moving at the start of each ride but it's smooth afterwards.
i have the GD turbo and after having 2 cables kink on me which result in the smoothness of the remote being non existent i have changed the fittings to go back to a normal GD.
they are easy to maintain and built to last, although i have no experience of any other makes to comment.
Got a Joplin4 very pleased with it thus far 2year warranty so we will see how it is longer term. But so far so good. I have gone for a lizard skin fork boot to try and keep the dirt out
Gravity Dropper's got the best reliability record I reckon. Well proven option, and lighter than most too. But ugly as ****
The KS 900 seems to finally work, took them a while. Not sure I'd touch any of the others, basically you need to give it at least a year to find out if they actually work in a country where it rains. I've watched ChrisL be an unpaid beta tester for the i900 and now after they've redesigned the thing, it's actually <gasp> fit for purpose!
yo jedi,
go to the Dagobah system singletack...
i here obi wan is offering a skills force in using one of these
I've got a Hite Rite on my Salsa, but never actually drop my saddle for anything.
I'll be hanging on for the new Rockshox one to come out later this year. Lets see what a big suspension company makes of a seatpost.
I've had a torrid time with my Gravity Dropper having had to return it twice due to mechanical issues. I've been out a couple of times having received it back, but I would definitely say hang on for the Rockshox assuming the damned thing works properly!
Im with TooTall waiting for reviews of the Rockshox Reverb and saving up the beer tokens
I'm happy with my gravity dropper, not overly pretty, but it works. Definitely worth getting the bar remote though.
to be honest i dont put my saddle down much either. its just nice on jumpy trails
The LBS got sick of having to deal with my 2009 KSi900r as I kept having to return it.
They handed me a Specialized Command Post instead as a bit of a compensatory upgrade.
It works really well, no problems.
Gravity dropper. For several reason.
Lighter than most if you're a weight wennie, more reliable than everything else (except maybe michel's one), very easy to service. And if something goes wrong, all the parts are available for cheap and you can fix it yourself.
Gravity dropper, ugly as sin but reliable and does exactly what it says on the tin.
Love mine and hate riding without it now.
Had mine for about 3 years with loads of trips away and its still going strong as others have mentioned very easy to service and keep working nice.
Bazzer
My i900 has been faultless for 10 months now, including the winter grime, with zero servicing or maintenance from me. In fact you saw it for yourself on Saturday Jedi 🙂
I have a 900i not had any problems but have a Lizard Skins fork boot covering the stanchion to keep it clean.
I'm waiting for the Rockshox Reverb as well but am still not sure if i'll buy one. Best argument for the GD is that it comes in a 27.2 size so it'll shim into most other frames. My main 2 bikes are 30.9 and 31.6 and as the Reverb only comes in a couple of sizes 30.9+ i'll either have to decide which bike will benefit most from it or buy two of them which at £200+ won't be an option.....
gravity dropper multi drop with remote - been using mine for over two years fantastic bit of kit - just had to clean and grease it a few times and replace the remote cable after it got a bit sticky inside
I reckon that the remote changes these things from a nice idea in theory to something that's actually really useful. It's a lot easy to drop your saddle when you want to if you don't have to take a hand off the bars and perform a crotch-grabbing manoeuvre in order to do so.
I got a KS i900R last year for my hardtail. It went back to the distributors twice before it started working reliably but since then has survived the winter and this year to date. The one I got when I got my Mojo earlier this year has been fine so far.
The nice things for me about the KS compare to a gravity dropper are that it's got a bit more adjustment (5"), you aren't limited to only 2 or 3 height settings and unlike Gravity Droppers there's a layback option.
