OK i feel like an idiot on this one. So all help gratefully received.

I’ll give a specific example

Next week I’m riding the king alfred way. I’m pretty sure there is a tap on the ridgeway above Wantage. I’ll google that in a moment. What i usually do for things like that is add them to Whats app group or just remember them. But for some rides you could have 10s of useful bits of knowledge like that

So what do you do?

I’ll have an iPhone, Hammer Head Karoo 2 and Garmin Watch with mapping

I pay for os maps, strava and the middle level of Komoot

I create a route in Garmin Connect, then add Waypoints for such things. There's a range of symbols available and you can select things like water stop, first aid etc or rename them as required. I'll do this with coffee shops and the likes. They pop.up on my Garmin as I approach them or I can add a field that lets me see the name of, and distance to, the next waypoint.

Haven't tried the waypoint thing myself but what i normally do (in os maps) is just edit into the route navigation off to the tap/shop/etc into the route then the same route back on to the main route again therefore if i see an odd line of navigation coming up it'll trigger my memory there's a reason and then i make the choice to divert off or just stay on the main route...works well for me

Was also intending to do kaw soon so interested in taps mainly on the section from Salisbury area to Reading...any tips on that appreciated!

Specifically for the KAW - if you look in the facebook group, somebody created a google map with places to eat etc. I think it has taps on it.

The file format that you export your route to your Garmin makes a difference. I’ve found that POIs I’ve added are missing with .tcx and .fit files but visible in .gpx
