You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've dug out a really old Alpkit Stingray and discovered it 'almost' fits my new bike. I'd like to put an Apidura frame bladder in there but it doesn't have a hydration port and the zip opening when closed is at the back of the bag.
(Bag inside out:)

Two options as I see it:
1) Unpick the black hem at the nose of the bag, fold back the side fabric and restitch the hem, then fold over and hem back the side fabric.
2) Buy a 25 or 30mm brass eyelet (or whatever size you need for a bite valve) and just punch it through the side of the bag. https://www.amazon.co.uk/30mm-Bronze-Eyelets-Rings-Washers/dp/B0742G1FN8/ref=asc_df_B0742G1FN8/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=499319577739&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15676780016959829011&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007056&hvtargid=pla-1237408373478&psc=1&mcid=c765b30838523371adce2ff88fc9ac64
Second option sounds a lot easier even if I need to take it to a shop rather than buy a rather large punch/setting tool, it's just question of if that would be weaker than the first option.
Alpkit do repairs. They might even do an alteration for you.
I think id just stick a hot metal object through the size you need and burn a hole (depending on material) it will singe the strands and stop it freying.
Or cut a hole and use clear silicone repair glue to stop it freying.
Any sailmakers would be able to do either option? There’s 2 kinds of eyelet, good ones have spikes on the inside to prevent ripping out.
