Morning All,

Currently running a Hope 32 tooth front ring and looking at fitting a standard granny ring to make it a 2x for a trip. Am I going to have issues shifting up onto the Hope ring as it doesn't have the little ramp/pick up pins or a bit of plastic a'la Shimano xt M770?

Got all the other bits but dawned on me this might be a problem

Cheers

You might have a problem as in it won't shift well due to the no pick up pins, but it should work of a fashion as back in the day there were no pick up ramps and bits to aid it, and they still worked, kinda of.

Chainrings were all like that once upon a time.
More likely to have 'issues' shifting off it than onto it. Just be smooth about your shifts and try not to load the chain while you're doing it. May need a bit more planning on ascents than you're used to if you've only ever used ramped & pinned rings.

Cheers Guys,

I'm pretty slick and thoughtful on the shifting and no probs in setting it up correctly either.

Suppose it boils down to is it worth spending the ££ on a new middle ring for a 5 day trip, or make do and be gentle.
