Looking for a new wheelset and these guys come in a lot cheaper than UK sources

DT Swiss 240 / DT EX511 / Sapim CX - looks to be about £600ish

Anyone offer and experience of their build?

Also, thoughts on brass vs alloy nipples - I'm thinking brass

Ideally brass nipples as they are less likely to get seized. Although those Dt rims will normally come with phr washers and alloy squorx nipples as standard. I used them on my latest wheel build - apparently hey have some sort of thread locker in them which helps them not seize onto the spokes. Nevertheless I soaked them in chain lube for a while before building and then used a big chunk of grease on them / the washer/ the rim and that should avoid seizing anyway from advice I got.

I think Andreas on here has had wheels built by that company - I’m sure he’ll notice this shortly if he has!

Got a DT350/Stans Flow built by them a couple of years ago, can't really complain about assembly quality

haha - that's right.

Yes - ordered two sets so far. 29 er with 25 mm inner and 27,5 with 35 mm inner (for 2,6 inch rubber); I still use tubes - means I can't say anything about tubeless quality.

I will order these days an other wheel set...for a new winter project...

Went the cheapest route. DT 370 with FunWorks rims. Build quality is very good, shipment very fast...and no issues so far.

And yes - if you bike a lot in crap and dirt and if you can't store your bike in absolute dry conditions use brass.

Yes bought a pair of 29er XM481 rims on 240s hubs a couple of years ago as they had a sale on.
Done a lot of miles never had a problem.
Quick delivery if I remember.

Ah, I bought the rims (Dt xm481’s) separately from starbike and built them myself on pro 4’s. They came with alloy squorx. With a proper wheel builder they’ll have all the options but I was trying to build a decent wheelset to a budget.

Nothing to add about actionsport but thats one hell of a wheelset. When you can get a wheelset like that I don’t undestand why people will spend double for carbon.

Must admit, I love the idea of blueflow/sixthelement eheels and even the SC reserves but so expensive..plus to get those on 240s and Sapim fancy spokes would be very expensive

One more question

Rear wheel I assume “symmetrical centre”
The bike is a Santa Cruz Hightower so nothing weird that I know of

Nevertheless I soaked them in chain lube

I'm glad it's not just me!

Genuine question... Why Germany, and not your LBS? £600 Sounds more than I spent for a similar DT 240 build I did myself a few months ago.

I had the same build 511s/240s from Actionsports around 4 months ago.

Quick delivery with tracking (6 days from order to delivery) and a solid build. Not the lightest but they seem very robust. Really happy with the service and build. As mentioned you will have to use the DT squorx nipples (I chose black).

rickon, no one in the UK I spoke to seemed interested in suppling me the build I wanted when I enquired and the 240s worked out a fair chunk more over here at the time.

Excellent!

Rickon - cheapest I could see was £750 in UK and that was with standard DT spokes

I had DT240s built with ex471 rims a year ago (was £500 back then) and still running sweet and not needed anything done. Usual Scottish trails along with Moab and a few other 'rocky' venues.

Great bike!
Better talk to Santa Cruz. My 27.5+ frame (150/150 StereoHPA2017) has a symmetrical design in the back.
Non symmetrical: brands like Liteville?

I have the same but mine were hand-built in Bristol by Ryanbuildswheels. Beyond having someone who knows an insane amount about wheels, it's also very comforting to know that if something fails Ryan will fix it for free and that he's local. I had a spoke snap and he rebuilt the entire wheel for free under warranty! If you're local to a wheel builder then I'd at least get a price. I supplied hubs myself as I got them in that crazy 50% off sale a while ago...

Dt240 on Arch a few years ago. Don't know if I had a Friday afternoon set but I had creaky spokes and a necessary go round both wheels with a spoke key after a month or so.

Not too peeved, would have been happy to build them up myself but couldn't have got the bits separately for cheaper!

Anyone bought their own brand (I think) Fun Works rims or hubs? 30mm internal 29er, 475g, 90€ and the hubs look blingy and light.

Well....ordered my 240/Ex511/Cxray/brass nipple wheels on Monday from Actionsports and turned up today

One question, should I change the 18toith ratchet in my new hub with the 36 currently in my old 350? And do I really need DT special grease?

Cheers

The 240 should have 36 or 54T in there already..

Hmmm...a quick spin of the free hub shows it to be 18t...not sure why it’s not got 36 A’s standard

...and just reading the description on their website has confirmed its 18t - maybe helps keep the price down

Just looked at the 650b 240 IS wheelset and it's definitely 36T in the description of the hubs..

Can't understand it but looks like non-boost comes with 36T and Boost 18T

Might be worth an email to them to check? State that most of the listings state a 36T and question why yours came with an 18T..worth a try.

Three and a half years on my wheels from Actionsports.de and they have been great. Came with a wee sheet saying spoke tension. Wheels are 350s with XM481 that have take a Lakeland battering and some continental bashing too. Only problem was going for DT Comp Race spokes and prolock nipples - the threadlock is stronger than the tortional strength of the spoke. Back wheel got re-laced with regular DT Comps and brass nipples and is much better for this.
Not sure the exchange rate is as kind as when I bought my wheels...

I spotted the 18t on boost so decided not to buy, trying some Hunts instead.

Have the DT370 hubs on my bikes - can't commend on the 18T issue.

But others:
actionsports.de has a winter sale going on right now. Great rebates on custom wheels.
