Hi,
Looking to buy an action cam but for a bit of a different use.
I want to use it in the club for training purposes. So need live / instant review on a mobile or tablet.
I already use a mobile with coaches eye, but for some shots /situations I don't fancy using my phone direct.
It will also be used for some more standard action cam stuff.
Got up to about 200 to spend, but need SD card and mounts too. Thinking about the go pro hero 4 session, any others to consider??
Have a search for sj4000 on here, great for the price and good quality filmage.
does the sj4000 have live preview / streaming to a mobile??
Ion Pro wifi from staples.
the wifi sj 4000 does it on my android tablet .
Ricoh WG-M1 has all the features you're looking for
There is a wifi sj4000 that will broadcast to a tablet, yes. Plus it has a screen on the back though some go pro models also have that.
It arrives bundled with a load of mounts, have a look on eBay...
If you have £200 to spend don't even bother looking at the shitty sj4000 or whatever they are called these days. No one who owns one is quite sure if they are fake or just plain rubbish. Just get a proper GoPro and connect it to the app. It works very well and does what you are looking for.
Sony HDR AS30V can provide live streaming through Wifi
Wifi software on the SJ cams can be a bit hit and miss, on iphone at least may be better on android
Has the screen though and is generally very impressive for the money
Avoid the SJ5000 and get the 4000+

This is bollox, it may have been the case a couple of years ago but SJ have upped their game recently to combat the counterfeiters, mine is definitely genuine and has handled all firmware updates with no issues and with a couple of tweaks to standard settings has dramatically improved the image quality
it's very easy to tell with anything other than the older SJ4000 (4000 wifi, + models etc) just get it from an Amazon forfilled seller if you want a bit of security and comeback, all boxes have a scratch off panel with a serial number to check if it's the real deal
Not to say GoPro are not the clear market leaders and the best but you can't get a GoPro with comparable features to the SJ4000+ for anywhere near £200, not by time you factor in waterproof housings, mounts, chargers, spare batteries and all the other stuff you will need and how many people actually need professional quality 4k recording?
just changed from a Faux-pro with wifi to a Hero 4 silver and it is night and day.
The footage is better, functionality is better and the wifi is spot on.
IF you plan on doing a lot of instant playback you will need spare batteries for the camera and the phone/tablet device.
A camcorder sounds more suitable or a simple Iphone slow-mo video if you ask me.
IF it doesn't need to be tough or compact don't waste money on one that is.
Just get a card reader for the iPad. I have a GoPro hero 3 and the WiFi link works well, although it's a bit slow and eats the battery. I find it's much easier /quicker to just pop the card out and stick it in the iPad.
Basically just get anything that records to micro SD. I'd probably say get a gopro but I'm not really up to speed with exactly what's on the market right now.
Take a look at the Sony action cams. A friend has one and we've used it skiing a few times. Connects via wifi to a phone and you can use the phone as a live view finder or as a remote control as well as stream previously recorded videos direct to the phone. Image quality was also very good.
You keep telling yourself your sjcam (scam) is genuine. Genuine piece of crap maybe.
Find me an Amazon link where there aren't reviews saying it's fake. You have bought a generic piece of junk with a sticker and openly admitted its hit and miss.
Op. Just buy a proper GoPro and you will not suffer hit and miss. It will work as you expect every time. They create their own wifi which your phone connects to and let's you control pretty much every setting and review footage as you seem to require.

Well that took long:

What exactly is it you have against the SJ4000? Simply trying to justify why you spent 4 times as much for the incredible videos you're taking?
6.5 x if you add in the screen. Even more if you add on the memory card, extra batteries and god knows how much on extra mounts. Might as well throw in an extra couple of grand for the 5k iMac to edit the 4K videos on. My problem comes from seeing multiple threads about people looking for a bargain alternative and wondering why it's a piece of shit and doesn't do what the genuine product does.
Where are all these people wondering why it's a piece of shit? I don't think I've seen a single person ever suggest that. At least not somebody who owns one, as opposed to somebody justifying why they needed to spend lots more.
Old garmin virb? Can be found for your budget, with mounts, etc. However, I'd be looking at a camcorder if I was the OP
I got an sj4000 for Christmas and ended up choosing a uk based ebay seller rather than Amazon. It's the wifi model and as far as I can work out its genuine, its origin isn't really of great importance to me though, it was a £60 camera that does a great job, is easy to use, connects to my phone and gives good quality films. Might not be super hot at quick paced transitions from light to dark but having seen enough go-pro footage I'm not convinced it's any worse than those!
For training purposes I imagine it will be grand.
Looking at Andysredmini user name I'd say he knows a thing or two about pieces of crap.
🙂
Not the cheapest but definitely 100% genuine, UK shipping, Amazon customer service if you need to return it and it came with an extra battery included -

(That's the 4000+ rather than the basic wifi it has a few more features including 2k recording, image stabilisation and a better sensor)
- serial number checks out on the SJ website
- it updates to latest firmware
Two major clues that tells me it's genuine
And the footage is more than suitable quality for what I need, and I can use it as a dashcam so it's less likely to gather dust in the bottom of a cupboard (as my old Contour is)
Couple of tips - update firmware to 2.3.1 or newer to enable rotation function and gyro anti shake
Knock the Exposure upto +1/3, set white balance to cloudy and the quality for mtb becomes much better, it's actually a bit sharper than a GoPro (doesn't handle changes in light quite as well admittedly but soon corrects itself)
No brainer against spending 6.5x on a go pro
Reason's for going with an action cam are mainly the robustness and waterproofness. Otherwise I'd just use my phone (which I do). But I don't fancy putting my phone on the outside of a muddy, rooty corner and hope no-one rides over it.
Camcorder is not really robust enough either.
Oh, and it will be used as a "normal" action cam also.
I think decision is made, a SJ4000+ wifi, spending a little more to get genuine.
I can get 2, with spare batteries, mounts, SD cards, etc. for my budget.
The only go pro in my price range is the hero 4 session, but that has a small battery and is not replaceable.
Thanks for all the advice.
You can get a GoPro Hero 3 White, including a spare battery, for £150 from Currys.
Probably similar video quality to the Hero 4 Session. But has the advantages of a replaceable battery, plus you can replace the housing if it gets damaged.
I think its a better deal than the Session, unless you need it to be as small as possible.
