Looking for a replacement for my Muvi K2 as it's a bit old and I feel like an upgrade.... I was going to make the easy move to a Hero 10, but there's plenty of comments about overheating and poor battery life.
So what's the best option? Feels like it comes down to Dji, insta360 or Gopro.
I would like to explore some alternative mounts that the 360 cameras can facilitate (3rd person type views), maybe a gimbal is a good option?
Must have a waterproof capacity, ideally built in but would accept a case. Battery life must be good enough for a full day at the bike park (even if it means a couple of extra batteries, but not too crazy!)....
The worries over overheating with the GoPro 10 and DJI Action led me to get an Insta360 One RS.
It's not as light as my last cam (Gitup Git2 - real old!). But doesn't unbalance my helmet if I clip it on there.
There's some jello effect when offroad. But I prefer the colour scheme to the darkened GoPro. Skin tones just look wrong. Batteries for the RS are fairly large. 90mins+ runtime with each one. I have a couple. Going to look into a charger for use in my backpack. Currently have to attach the battery and charge through the brain module.
Some of the akaso options are excellent- mine aren't quite as good as a gopro 10, but then, I got both cameras and some spare batteries for less than a gopro 10.
The GoPro issues can largely be resolved by not shooting everything at max resolution/fps IME. Shoot in 1080p25 or p50 and it's fine.
Battery life, take a small USB pack and charge it on the uplift.
I've no experience of the others, and I hate GoPro's with a passion at work. No-one want's a camera where it's that easy to accidently change settings and find you've accidently shot a whole days footage in NTSC, or timelapse 🤣. They're great, but they suck up an inordinate amount of the day setting up.
Why not buy a Hero 8? Basically the same functionality for a lot less cash?
Cheers all, as for the hero 8 I'm under the impression the stabilisation is significantly better with the new models.... There's talk of a hero 11 soon too which may muddy the water.
One issue I have with the K2 is the lens angle (FOV) isn't as wide as I would like so a camera with a specifically wide angle (or 360 I suppose) would be preferential.
If I could afford it I'd get a 360, but that's because I mostly set my camera up on a tripod to video session type stuff, and because a 360 shoots yes 360 degrees, you have control of camera panning at the editing stage rather than actually having to physically pan the camera during the shoot (useful if you're the cameraman and the bike rider!).
I don't know how much more stabilisation you need 🤣 It gets to the point where everything looks boring. Anyhow- I love my 8.
Hero 8, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't have horizon stabilisation, something the 10 does really well from what I have seen....
