I'm looking at buying a principia, but the headset bearings are pretty much shot to bit.

The headset is a acros ah-114. As it is 1 1/8" top and 1 1/4"bottom, they are super expensive to replace - £99 ish.

I don't have the bike so cant yet have a good look, a bit of googling suggests it is not possible to get the bearings out of the cups?

Has anyone managed to change the bearings in these?

Q: I would like to replace a bearing in my ACROS headset, but i have trouble removing it from the bearing shell. What can I do?

A: The bearings are press-fitted into the ACROS headsets, which means that the bearing and the bearing shell are fitted together using a kuckle goint press under huge exertion of force. This system provides many technical advantages as well as granting each headset a high life expectancy. In the rare case one of the bearings has to be replaced, please turn the headset to us. We guarantee a quick professional and prompt service, so you can get back on the bike as soon as possible.

Just to update this thread in case anyone googles looking for an answer. I contacted Balfa and they confirmed the bearings are not replaceable, a new headset is required.

Further update, I took the bearing out, it just popped off the race, replaced with a bearing the same spec and all went straight back in again.
Dead easy

Go to the headset finder on Cane Creek's website and it will give you the SHIS number for each race. You can then buy whatever headset you fancy.
