I'm looking at getting something booked up for next spring and instead of riding around Snowdonia we're looking at the lakes instead. This will mean driving up from Brighton so looking to stay for a few days.
Can anyone recommend decent bike friendly accommodation for a group of blokes. Preferably near a pub for refuelling afterwards. Preferred location would be in or near Keswick as that looks like it has plenty of options for a few days riding. Never ridden around there so may look into a guide a bit nearer the time.
For now though every place I look at online is a weeks rental minimum and pretty pricey, e.g. well over £1k for a week. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Borrowdale YH, perfect for some unbelievably good riding, and some really great eateries/pubs within a 15 minute walk.
Perfect location but we're all in our forties now so probably a bit old for a youth hostel! Not that there's anything wrong with them. Appreciate the suggestion.
May be a little too pricey if looking for sub £1k. But Helton is a good spot - https://www.fellgatefarm.com
Lakes is full of big houses available to rent. Off season you can get mini breaks. After Easter it's weeks about.
Lakes is also full of accommodation agencies.
A quick Google will give you more agencies than you can ever need. Put in your details and you will have ample choice.
Lots of bunk houses or camping barns. All are good.
Only you can know exactly what you want.
Coniston - coppermines cottages.
TBH £1000 for 8 people for a week is cheap. It's less than £20 per person per night.
Law of supply and demand. If OP doesn't want to pay that, no one is going to worry. There are plenty more folk who will. Besides he can make his money back when he sees that decent beer costs half of what soft southerners drink.
We be stopped at the hydro hotel in Bowness last few times, they have bike storage available about £40-55 a head including breakfast , it’s alright
We stayed at the White Horse bunkhouse just outside Keswick for a weekend back in June. The bunkhouse was fine, there’s a shower block, small kitchen and a pub with good food. I’d stay there again.
Perfect location but we’re all in our forties now so probably a bit old for a youth hostel! Not that there’s anything wrong with them. Appreciate the suggestion.
Gang of us in our 30s and 40s stayed there a year or so ago. We were by no means the oldest there...
old school house in wythop its on airbnb about 100 a night sleeps up to 10, pub and hotel about 10 mins walk, posh pub anout 15-20 mins walk, not far from lakes distillery. Can link into most keswick routes from the door.
I think you need to update your views on the YHA. 43 here, as said above, never, ever the oldest there, brilliant for biking trips away.
Elterwater Private Hostel great location loads of all weather riding right next to the Brit
Cheers for the helpful suggestions by the way. Couldn't reply last night as I was busy but plenty to look into. It's a little bit tricky trying to organise these trips in that they rarely end up being straightforward with so many people wanting to come, they often drop out at the last minute for various reasons so something that isn't overly expensive has been found to work best in the past.
I'm genuinely grateful for the help so many thanks. Also I'm surprised some people still say things like "soft southerners"...
4-bed lodges at Whinfell Center Parcs from £400 for the midweek 25th-29th March, just on the edge of the Lake Discrict.
