I currently have a Race Face Turbine Direct Mount 30t on my zcotic Soul and I’d like to fit an Oval chain ring.
Do I buy the direct mount version for the Cinch as I can’t see a version for the Turine listed?
Also do I swap like for like in terms of size or go up to 32 teeth? I’m not wanting to make climbing any harder!!!
Thanks
The Turbine is a Cinch system crank, so yes. Cinch is RF’s name for the interface system they use for their spiderless direct mount cranks with interchangeable axles.
I’d buy the size you normally do, so if you’re normally a 30T person then buy the 30T. It’s always worth trying a bigger ring from time to time if you feel the size you’re on is spinning out but trying to force yourself to push harder gears is just going to cause knee injuries.
Thanks mate much appreciated.
My chainring was 32t 104 BCD and I used a WorksComponents one. It was very good value and I never dropped a chain with it. Replaced it with an Absolute Black clever 30t design as it gives me a lower gear. I have dropped the chain once over several months with the AB (could have been unlucky). Can't comment on durability however. The link below is for the cinch type at WorksComponents, as an alternative.
I've only ever dropped chains with AB, switched to Oval Works and no issues...
Been running a 34t AB oval ring for the last 12 months. 0 dropped chains, with a 10x SLX rear mech with clutch. I think it works out the at the hardest part of the pedal cycle it's 32t and at the easiest it's 36t but I may have totally got this wrong - kind of makes sense to me though. It's not noticeable when you ride.
Be careful where you buy Absolute black rings from.
they make some for CRC exclusively. I can’t remember exactly what they call them but they are made of the softest cheese.
AB rings otherwise might be ok but I killed a crc one in a couple of months.
I’ve currently got an oval ring from ubercomponants. Seems to be lasting well!
Dont know if they do it in the fitting you need though!
My Absolute Black one bought from Mad Elk cycles is superb.
I have a chain guide so can't comment on dropped chains, but it's lasted 2 years 4 months so far and only looks minimally worn!
Love the Oval too - does just what I wanted it to which is help on the most technical parts of climbs. Don't really notice it otherwise.
Considering one for my CX bike.
