cheers for the advice chaps ( sorry for the slow response, forum went down). will check out the bike shops and the neep site. planning on heading up to pitfichie on sat to scope it out. let me know if any one wants to join me.

Is there a good bike shop in aberdeen? any to avoid??

Alpine Bikes and Ediburgh Bicycles are the main two. I rarely use either but if I need something in a hurry I go to Edinburgh Bikes as a friend works there.
I tend to get most of my kit from Gravity Sports in Buckie which is a bit of a trek from Aberdeen but the owner Richard will post stuff to you.

Cycleworld in Stonehaven (heavy frequenters of this forum) have been floating my boat recently. Very good stop off if your down in Stoney for the local trails... and meals at the Carron or Tolbooth, and/or beer/food at the Marine Hotel.
