Going to see a relative in Aberdeen next month, its only an extra £40 to bring my bike is there any uplift around there? (I'm a scotland mtb virgin)

Not really anywhere close. If you wanted to travel further Nevis/Fort William has uplift but I think that starts in early May.

Tons of great cycling if you're happy to pedal/push up the hills though!

Grow a pair and earn your turns... some epic riding up here if your willing to ride (or walk) up a mountain.

I could have put that better 😉

If your looking for full on uplift and DH action you'll not find it close to Aberdeen.

For doonhaller riding you'll need transport to Pitfichie or Scolty where there are epic doonhaller trails... and a reasonable probability of other stormtroopers.

If AM is more your bag it's ace round here... but you might want to hook up with local riders for a little guidance to make the most of your visit.

trail rat, so should I bring my DH bike and expect push up type trails or my AM bike and expect to ride up for longish periods?

edit - just seen messiahs edit.
Hmm might be more sensible to bring the am bike then..

Doonhaller 😆 you sound just like my mate in Aberdeen!

AM bike for sure. As the others said, there's some decent DH if you don't mind pushing but loads of excellent trails on a slightly more climbing friendly bike.

It's worth pointing out that, as DH tracks go, Pitfichie is pish. Take something you can pedal and you'll get much better riding in

Well i might go for longer than a weekend based on this. Is Aberdeen itself Ok, I mean shall I persuade the wife and kids to come for a weeks hols over easter instead of me goign on my own at end of april (sorry for moving goalposts, but my mate in aberdeen is moving away to Australia and I want to go and do some man love, I can get more time if I bring the missus)

I'd not say Aberdeen was up there as a top destination for the family for a week's holiday. If you've got another driver to come (such as the mate leaving), you may be OK.

Depending what they like doing, there is loads of stuff they could get up to - hill walking, castles (ruined like Dunnottar to not like Balmoral and many more between), beaches, nature walks, stunning scenery, museums, golf, distilleries, whatever... You are not going to spend the week going to shows every night and basking in the culture but you could easily kill a long weekend or a week here.

Give a shout out to the forum before you come up and we can help you plan - whether it's a weekend thing or something longer.

the lecht is worse than pitfichie. HOW EVER grab an os map and go up into them thare hills near by and youll see some beautiful sights - even if you are only riding land rover tracks. - had some great days out up there.

you could do worse than ride bennachie , scolty ,clachnaben, or further afield you have loch muick/lochnagar or mountkeen - this is an all day 70-100k loop with stonking climbs and even better descents in a "pick your way technical" kinda way , i would suggest coming back nearer the time and seeing if anyones around that can guide you

places to avoid if your up for a trip would be kirkhill , pitfichie (the trail center anyway) , countesswells and most likely swanley unless your in the 2 day window each year that its ridable - one of those is when its slightly damp and the others when its frozen solid.

heres a list of soem rides in the area - note these routes are not necessarilly the best or most up to day routes as things are constantly changing
