I'm going to be providing support and kit shuttles for a group doing Devon C2C and getting some riding done my self too.
So has Any one ridden Abbeyford woods recently? is it worth a scratch around for DHy/ Enduroy/ Woodsy riding?
Also is there anything up near Barnstaple worth having a hunt for?
Any tips or suggestions welcome!
Think abbeyford is long gone.
As Jambo says Abbyford used to be the home to loads of Northshore & the Okeriders trails but it was all pulled down years ago, there's maybe 3 miles of fairly dull singletrack in there now, mostly overgrown.
Half an hour drive along the A30 in either direction will get you to Haldon or Cardinham or use a map & ride up from Okehampton castle though the golf course for a cheeky loop of Meldon reservoir & up around military roads near Belstone.
this is a nice short loop with great views halfway between tavi and okehampton

Half an hour drive from Okehamptoon would get you to some of the best riding on the moor - Lustleigh Cleave, Bennet's Cross, Postbridge, or go down to Mary Tavy and out onto the moor from there. On the other hand - you probably can't drive half an hour for a ride if you're looking after a C2C crew going through Okie! Just do a bit of the Granite Way, which is part of the route?
Here's what used to be in there
if its a nice day then its worth a haul up from okehampton up onto yes tor & high willhays. the riding isnt much cop but the views are amazing.
