I feel a right numpty. I didn't realise you can't download Memory Map cartography onto a Garmin etrex Legend HCx!!! You can only transfer your routes and waypoints onto the shite basemap supplied. Is there any way around this?

Do you want OS map level cartography on your etrex? If so, nope.

Depending on the version you may be able to add Garmins own TOPO maps but these are not the same as OS maps.

For OS Maps on a Garmin you will need a Oregon and GB Discoverer

Or a SatMap

It is possible to buy a cheep car SatNav hack the OS so that you can access the Win CE.NET 5.0 and then install Memory Maps PDA solution you may be able to find out some more here

If you buy something like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/02-XDA-Orbit-2-Unlocked-original-acces-Sat-NAV_W0QQitemZ280339715383QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhones?hash=item280339715383&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:1|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

you can run memory map on there, transfer maps, routes etc... So long as you don't download too many routes it works quite well.

Obviously you can also use it as a phone/camera etc.. too.
