Saved me a huge bill and a lot of hastle .
Went to Bavaria with 3 mates for a weeks biking in the VW T5 aged 9 years old
and a drive shaft broke 400 miles from the ferry on the way back .
I had taken the AA cover with parts and labour at a cost of £150 ish for a year multitrip policy .
so a call to their Lyon ops centre had a truck with us in 90 mins which took us to their depot in Karlsruhe.
after they had found the problem was not fixable quick the AA got us a hire car for the trip to Calais and a hotel over night , booked the first ferry in the morning and a hire car to get us home in the UK .
The day after I received a call to say what the damage was and it could be fixed next day under their cover with a small bit added on I had to pay 135 euro
They then organised a flight from Manchester to Stuttgart via Copenhagen with a taxi to take me to the Depot 70km`s away to collect the van
And a hotel on the drive back to the ferry which they also sorted out .
So we had a bad end to a terrific weeks riding all sorted out by the AA`s cover .
I dread to think what it would have cost us had we not taken any cover which I have done in the past but will never do again . a big thanks to the AA 😀
Good to hear a good story 🙂 However, if you've an older/cheaper vehicle, apparently they can 'write off' the vehicle if it costs more than its worth to recover back to the UK. Not a problem for a normal car but if its a camper that you've sunk hundreds of hours into, and loads of money on the conversion, it can be a bit eye watering when they don't recognise the increased value!
Good service there I'd say.
How much cover do you get for parts & labour with your policy?
Not sure how this is bike related. Chat forum is next door.
It was £500 limit on that part
was a biking trip Sorry if it upsets you will try harder next time
Cheers will look into that next year.
Yep I just had a good experience too. Ball joint broke on way home from Morzine two saturdays ago. Lyon control got us to a hotel, hire cars, fixed the car in France, I went out last weekend and got it fully paid-for.
Just under the £500 limit for car fix. All good. Car 20 years old, no limit to age !
Good news Flap-jack I was wondering as my vans 10 in march so I will still be able to get the cover next time .
Good news about the age of car allowed!
Did you guys just have the European cover only or all in with cover in the UK and how much was it?
Thanks.
My mates sister got flown back from the south of France this year after their car packed in. Apparently it was in the small print that the AA would provide flights.
Yep, the AA saved me when my van blew on the autoroute on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of nowhere.
Absolutely brilliant service, sorted hotels, a hire car and repatriation. Been loyal to them ever since.
