Thought this was worth a mention - out on a road ride yesterday and approaching the halfway point at the Wymondham Windmill café one of the guys had a massive sudden front puncture, which when we checked had blown a hole in the tyre.

He fixed it with a tyre boot while we attacked the bacon and sausage cobs, but on reinflating the tyre, the hole looked ready to burst again.

Popped next door into the very expensive looking Windmill Wheels - Bianchi, Condor, Enigma frames hanging like works of art all over. Showed the wheel and tyre to one of the guys who said "It might get you home, depending how far home is....?"

50 miles we told him.

As expected, he suggested a new tyre. "Lets see what we have..." over to the shelf "these are £30, but these ones are down to £20 at the moment...argh, not got those in a 25....hang on, let me see what we have round the back....."

He reappears holding a brand new wheel complete with unused tyre that I'd assume got upgraded when someone bought a bike. "Could do you this Rubino Pro for a tenner?"

Which didn't seem bad given his captive customer 50 miles from home. 😐

Anyway, the £10 included fitting as well 😯

Brilliant, quick, cheap service to help a fellow rider get back on the road - we are quick enough to complain about bike shops sometimes, but I was really impressed by their helpful friendly attitude.

So when I've saved up the £4,500 I need for the Enigma Evoke Disc I want for my 50th, I may well be heading 30 miles further to buy it from Windmill Wheels.

guys at rideabikeaway at Forest of Dean did similar for us yesterday. I took my 7 year old daughter and her best friend on the family trail yesterday. Her friends seat post clamp tuned out to be made of cheese and literally gave up halfway round the ride. I bodged a repair with reflector bracket to keep the seatpost from slipping but the saddle spun freely (!)

Ended the ride and I promised a repair. The workshop had new Hope camps at £19 but the mechanic, seeing a small child sent us to the hire shop where there was a box of spare clamps from the hire bikes. He rummaged and produced a free clamp. Chapeau.
