hi peeps im just a little worried about my front tyre its going down fast over night ive shook it around and can only hear abit of sealant inside it dosent sound slushy like when you first put the sealant in, do you think i need a top up ? ive also tested my tyre if i need new sealant by doing a pin prick test with a small needel and the fluid isnt sealing that even though it says can seal up to 1/4inch holes on the front lol should i just replace all sealant or just have a top up perhaps? im still learning sorry but any suggestions would be good thanks 🙂 ive ran tubes for 10 years but i insist my new nomad has got to be tubeless lol

I converted my FS recently, 3C Minions on basic Mavics somethings (Orange 5)
Put 90ml in each.
Been up a week now, not lost any that's detectable by a finger squeeze.

I noticed it said the stuff lasts 3 months on the bottle...?
Hoping that's not the case.

I top up every 6 months with a small shot bottle in each tyre.

Stan's Tire Sealant will stay liquid in a mountain bike tire with a thin casing for 2-7 months on average. Riding in arid climates or storing the bike in a hot area will requires more frequent monitoring of sealant levels. Special anti-freeze agents allow the sealant to be used in environments as cold as -30° F.

I reckon you need about 4oz per tire assuming big chunky 2.4/2.5 tyres.

More in fatter, less in skinnier.

Just whip your tyre off and check, sounds like you need more. Don't go stabbing holes in your tyre, that's daft.

All you need to do is take about 10 inches of tyre off the rim on one side so you can see inside the tyre. Put the exposed area at the bottom and see if there is any sealant in there.
If not then it can be put into that exposed area and tyre popped back on.

This is a 1 minute job...

You haven't ridden it yet, have you? Put a bit more air in and go for a ride, sorts most stuff out. It might need more sealant, it might not.

The first application of sealant gets used up pretty quickly depending on how porous the tyre is, but after that you shouldn't need to add a lot.

And see if you can find a little plastic bottle of 50ml or more, like a lotion bottle or the best I've found are the ones that you buy from Muji. Fill up with Stans and use it to top up through the valve ( presta, remove the core)no no need to pop the bead. And then use it to carry some spare with you on rides, v handy if the tyre starts to misbehave
