Can you get through this quarry (in daylight) without encountering guards dogs, razor wire fences, locked gates or security guards?

"Round the back of it" on the perimieter or "round the back of it" within 3 miles.

I need to get from Edenfield up to the Whittle Hill turbines.

yeah just around the back (sand beds lane - rooley moor rd). we came in touching distance to the turbines (on the cobbles) 😀 then dropped down broadley then over to wardle and worked our way round to Lee quarry and then back to Rooley moor road & back to Edenfield

have a look on google map

The usual route up to the turbines is to avoid the Quarry service road, stay on the main drag through Turn village, to Fecit farm on the left. I'm pretty sure that is the track just next to Turf Moor on that map. Head on up the track there and you will eventually intersect the turbine service road.

Head Right (and keep left) and you will pick up the track that will drop you down to the top of Cragg quarry, at the crossover. Or wander around to the right to the other quarries and pick up the MTL

To answer your original question though, they are pretty easy going at the quarry when it comes to riding through. I wouldn't go up that way though, it's a fair drag and you would be in the way of tippers grinding their way up the hill.

I'd avoid, TBH

Are you new to the area?

Not really, just don't know it as well as I know the stuff on my doorstep a few miles to the south.

Just roughing out a potential route for the Saturday "Turbine Ride" and that is the only bit that I don't know. It's best to be aware of a locked gate before trundling up to it then trundling back down. 😳

Will look at your alternative.

Come along and show us the way. http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/ramsbottom-wind-turbine-ride-saturday-april-2nd

I can't do Saturday morning, my lad goes swimming. I'm usually out at about 12.30 once my duties are discharged!

By the sounds of some of the sandbaggers on the other thread, you'll still be out then. 😀

Harry - better way is to go up either Sand Beds Lane as mentioned or the Coal Road (diamonds on your map). You shouldn't enter an active quarry.

Just wanted to know if it was a track with a quarry off it or a quarry with a track through it. Will use one of the alternatives suggested.

9:30 Rose and Crown. Will confirm with Binners.

Could link in Cragg Quarry too.
