Anyone use one that isn't thumb operated? Mine are buggered and it really hurts to use a normal lever. Wondering about a very small brake lever under the main one buts haven't found a tiny one.
Could invert a normal one on top of bars like a thumb shifter I guess. Also I don't ride the MTB a lot so could cope with less that instant action so it could be placed less than optimally.
Any alternative bright ideas?
You could perhaps bodge a Shimano shifter to use the front paddle with your braking finger
This type mounted backwards between grip & brake so you pull it with your finger?
Or just that type on your right hand if your other thumb is ok?
I was just thinking the same thing as Phil. It might be possible to mount one of those outboard of the brake lever.
I've got a feeling that the throw might be too long to operate with a finger on brand-x. Think I've got one in the garage so I'll have a look tomorrow.
You can use a Microshift friction shifter done up loose as a dropper lever.
Gripshift with spring removed, or an original KS Southpaw with the lever spun 180 in the split clamp to be operated by finger.
If you are less concerned by ergonomics (and travel or cable position), there's the old X Fusion Hilo with the actuator under the saddle! It brings back memories of exploding ATF all over the workshop but it does the job.
On my other bike I have a ks dropzone with under seat lever. I've just got used to it and don't mind it. That bike is more xc than gnar. On the more extreme stuff I appreciate the thumb shift.
The first set up I had I converted a front mech shifter to use the thumb shift but you might be able to make the finger shift work.
I have arthritic thumbs that don’t work well with dropper levers. AXS has been my solution. Not cheap but does sort the problem, and more !
Crank brothers one can be rotated to be used loads of directions and is the best but about their post.

Also, if you like the look of that Giant one, I have a similar unused KS one you can have for a fiver. Will only work if you have a post with the grub screw clamp at the post end though. The lever takes the nipple end of the cable.
Yep Joystick. Got one when I broke my thumb and ran it from my index finger. Found I preferred and have left it that way.

I've got the older version of the Crank bros lever in a spares box somewhere, it really hurt my thumb for some reason. Very adjustable and light, just a bit uncomfortable to actually push on.
I'm still using a bodged old LX front shifter with the downshift removed and ratcheting disabled, it gives lots of mechanical advantage and works well. That's With an old HiLo funnily enough, the post mounted lever was not fun to use IMO/IME, the crotch grab to lower the seat just isn't a good solution...
I reckon a modded gripshift could be a good option so long as your knackered thumb hasn't reduced grip strength too much...
It just needs to pull cable?
childs or bmx brake lever might work but would look a bit shit. I wonder if it could be adapted? The other thing that pulls cable is for remote lockout. Not sure if any of those are finger operated.
Cheers all. Lots to go at . Taped the thumb near solid this morning and it is still darn sore.
where abouts are folks putting there fore finger remotes, does the brake lever not get in the way?
Can you mount one on the right hand side? I did this with my Reverb remote because I only had a left one and wanted it underneath the bars.
Worked well for years and you just get used to using the other thumb.
Otherwise could you use something that’s supposed to have a super light action like the Wolftooth Pro?
Or modify a grip shift?
Hope dual lever plumbed into a Reverb?
