Looking at one of these for the rear to save some weight over current DH High Roller but £13 for a normal or £40 for a ust seems a crazy difference.

I know the ust are black chilli but it's only for the rear so i'm not that bothered but if i go ghetto i need to know the sidewalls on the cheap wires will be ok.

So, anyone run the cheapo's,

1. What are the sidewalls like.
2. Are the wire beads ok for ghetto tubeless?

Also, can anyone justify the ust ones over the others, i don't want to buy cheap then buy twice as the saying goes.

thanks

All of the RQs are now available in black chilli I think; it used to be just the 2.4s but now the 2.2 are as well, UST or not. I've not run the non-chilli models but the black chilli compound really is amazing, sticks like a super tacky but lasts forever and rolls quicker than any High Roller.

I used to run 2.4s but they are massive, now run the 2.2s and they are great. Can't really comment on the sidewalls, they do their job, I run low pressures and DH tubes and haven't had a puncture for 2 years - no idea what they are like for tubeless.

I run 2.2 UST on a tracer vp and like em
that said they are when leaned over on front a bit skittish comp to my old high rollers,
personally if you have a UST rim then buy that one and save yourself £15 quid in tyre sealer you will end up spending if you but the cheapskate version 😉

I have just taken a pair off my bike, tried to run them tubeless but found to many pin holes in the sidewalls to pug with wheel milk so just fitted tubes.

The rear tyre has not lasted that well, the sidewalls are badly worn and have a few cuts one quite bad that has started to peel a few layers off. I think they have been on for about 6 weeks.

Grip wise they are as good as High Rollers with better traction on the back for climbing.

Only used the folding 2.4" on my big bike. As such can't really comment on UST, but they're awesome as a trail centre tyre.

They are BIG though!

Don't think the RQ ust rear is that great an option. Mine has twice lacerated on rough stony trails. Like the ust 2.4 front though. Would be tempted to run the regular tyre on he rear with a tube and save some cash. The RQ rear fails to impress over damp/wet ground where a high roller seems better.

BC version seems pretty good to me, low on wear and high on grip. I only use mine on the fron tho (SB8 on rear at mo now summer has dropped by for the month!).

I also found sidewalls holey as heck tho so lots of patience is req'd for tubeless (see my RQ woes thread!!).

Not tried the std version but yeah Black Chilli is expensive. May temp me back to try the Mountain King 2's in BC tho (which is surprising as the last cheap old MK I had blew of the rim with a split in the bead of a bout 3"). Especially if they hold air better then the RQ's.
