So... after having had a nice ride in an ambulance this morning to get to work, after a car decided to turn left through me, I'm just assessing the damage to myself and my kit.
Oh, and I'd like to say what a great job the ambulance crew did.. they were excellent with me, and were a good laugh too! Police seemed to be pretty good too, and it looks like they have given the driver a summons to court(?), to go speak to a judge/magistrate about what happened, but has admitted liability.
Still feeling pretty shaken up, but don't have the adrenalin pumping like I did earlier, and my knee is now starting to throb and not feel too great. Got a nice bruise coming up on my arm as well... and am sure I will ache like a bugger later! Anyway...
Bike - looks okay, but gonna get this checked over by a bike shop at the weekend.
Helmet - again, looks okay, don't really remember hitting my head, but I did land in a good heap on the floor.
Jacket - looks like it might have remained unscathed, but will check it later.
Shorts - have a little damage on them.
Tights - brand new Endura Stealth, first ever ride... grrrr... looks like they might have been holed.
Pannier - seem to be fine, I think that probably cushioned the bike quite a bit in the crash... thankfully my lunch survived in tact as well!
So, what's reasonable to be asking for here? I'm thankfully not badly injured, although I am a little concerned about my knee at the moment, so probably ask for that to be assessed by a physio... which is good, seeing as I have just finished seeing one for my achilles on the other leg!
Good news that the lunchbox made it unscathed 😀 I'd ask for replacement of anything damaged, visit the quack to get a proper assessment/record of injuries too, especially the knee, in case they cause further issues.
unlucky buddy 🙁 just dont give up for 15 years like i did!
get yourself and the bike professionally checked out +1
The ambulance bods did an excellent job.. and apparently, as of Monday this week, all the readings/details they took are now accessable online by my GP.. which is rather good! They've took a record of everything that hurt at the time...
I'll see how the knee feels later, once I've tried to ride home!!
And no chance of giving up.. I'm booked in for the Kielder 100 next year! Gulp!
nick i got knocked off last week and am currently going through the leagal stuff. if you want any advice, my OH is studying law, my email is in profile.
get the helmet replaced as a mater of caution - you would hate to find out that it was damaged the next time it gets a knock!
get the Pc names, incedent number. request a police report.
request a doctors report - this needs to be done in writing.
get photos of the bike/ clothes/ injuries/ scene of the accident if neccasary.
get names addresses of any witnesses/ 3rd party. the polica may have these.
I'm also entered into keilder - my aim is to be cycling by the Christmas break. atm my training has shifted focus to rehabilitation...
HTH
glad it's not worse for you.
So, I entered Kielder about a week ago, and on Monday my son fell off his bike avoiding a white van.
What is it about K100?
Thanks for the offer thomthumb.. I may well take you up on that offer.
I'm still waiting for the PC to phone me with all the details of the incident number and the like, but I have the witness details, and the drivers details. The driver has also admitted it was his fault, to me, the witness and the police... which should make things easier! Hopefully!
And I hope you recovery goes well too...
Anyone know what Endsleigh are like to deal with?
So, are we thinking that it might have been a bad idea to enter Kielder? Is it cursed?
I can just imagine the insurers reading the claim for those "130 quid for a pair of tights?!"Tights - brand new Endura Stealth, first ever ride... grrrr... looks like they might have been holed.
Bad luck, take it easy, hope the driver doesn't change his mind about fault.
That's what I was thinking with the tights!!
And hopefully it's too late for him to change his mind now... plus, I have two independant witnesses, one a pedestrian and the other the woman in the car behind.

Recomended them so many times, people i know who have used them say they are good.
Glad your ok.
I wouldn't hold any hope that the police will do anything other than check up on the driver to make sure that they're not hurt in any way and maybe make them a cup of tea, offer them a sit down and also a nice piece of cake. Last year I was knocked down by a driver who then drove over my bike, he admitted in full at the time that he'd been far more interested in watching a motorbiker which was why he'd pulled out from the junction without looking, just as I was riding in front of him. He said many times that it was all his fault in front of witnesses, the fire brigade (it was outside a station and they were ever so keen to get involved in directing traffic and having one of their fellas sit by me with oxygen "just in case") the Police who came to attend and and the ambulance crew.
4 weeks later I got a letter from the Met saying that no further action was being taken against the driver, but that I could have victim support if I wanted.
Oh, hope you're ok, bloody isn't it?
