Not sure if it will ever do me a favour but was thinking of using one for commuting purposes and the occasional MTB outing with my young son.

Are they worth it or save up for the expensive one?

They're pretty good if you don't want the 'pro' features of the higher models. The battery is built in so you can't swap it once its spent, but on the plus side they also have the waterproof case built into the unit.

I am just amazed that folk video the commute now. I keep seeing cars with the same - I followed one in Ayr yesterday that had camera on mirror and screen relaying it on dash... Really?

Having been driven at and assaulted and see the guy get away very lightly for lack of a witness or other evidence I think it might be a good idea. Same with driving, people often lie about what happened in accidents so surely some video might be a good thing (if you are the victim).
