You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
a mixed surface ride, canal path, dales double track and lanes.
bike choice
3'' tyred plus 'sofa comfy' bike
40mm tyred tourer, also very comfy
speed is no concern. all day to get there.
If you don't mind a bit of drag**, go for the 3" I reckon.
**oh-er missus.
40mm tyred tourer faster is more fun.
Depends which bit of Dales doubletrack, TBH (and which parts of the Leeds/Liverpool you're riding - the sections around Silsden and Skipton-Gargrave are a bit bumpy/muddy)
3” tyred plus bike. See more of the world at a slower pace.
and it probably won’t be that much slower anyway.
martinhutch, where does the good surface end on the canal.
rode to bingley other week, all good to there. i was going to come off at silsden the go across to carlton in craven
Tony, they've just resurfaced the last mile or so of the towpath to Silsden so it's good to there. Currently the rough/muddy bit is between Silsden and Bradley, the path from there to Skipton has been resurfaced. The rough bit is still OK at the moment, it's not got muddy again yet.
Getting across the main road from there isn't pleasant as it's a really busy (and fast) roundabout. Best to come off the tow path at Riddlesden and head towards Keighley town centre then turn right on to Royd Ings road (if you pass Jewson's you've gone too far, it's on the corner where you turn), go along the road and just keep going in the same line and you'll end up on a new link that gets you on to the old main road where you can continue on to Steeton.
Carry on to Crosshills turn left at the traffic lights before the railway crossing. In XHills turn right at the police station then at the top of the short hill turn right again and down to Cononley then it's a back road to Carleton.
A lot of the above is part of my commute so isn't a wild guess from looking at the map.
cheers Bob.

Sorry - just seen this. Thanks Bob for providing the answer!
Past Skipton to Gargrave the surface isn't too bad but is grass/earth so bumpy in places. Tourer suitable but a bit boneshakey in places.
