I think the answer is no BUT does anyone make a Campag 9 speed cassette with proper Campag spacing that sits on an HG freehub?
Older road bike running Veloce. The brifters and dual pivots are fine but my son has bent the outer cheap steel chainring and I'm tempted to treat him to some new cranks and lighter wheels as he's getting into club run stuff rather than just banging around the lanes solo.
I was looking for a well priced Shimano rim braked groupset for it but trying to maybe do this as a staged upgrade.
This way I could lighten his wheels, replace the cranks and not have to stick with Campag when the rest wears out / go hunting for a new freehub.
I guess the other option is to buy some wheels where i know I can get a freehub later but that seems a bit of a lottery on future spares.
Mavic used to make a cassette bitd that you could change the spacers for Shimano or campag. Good luck trying to find one!
Miche might make something
Yes, Miche used to make them. The alternative is to dismantle and replace the spacers on a HG cassette - I have done this successfully. Highpath Engineering used to make spacer kits.

Buy some wheels, and buy the freehub *now* so that it's ready when you want to switch?
Ambrosio used to make campag spaced cassettes for HG freehubs but I think now only make 10 speed versions.
The alternative is to use a Jtech shiftmate 1 to change the shifter/derailleur throw so you can use Shimano freehub and cassette with Campag derailleur and shifters.

PS. Sjscycles sell Miche 9 speed cassettes for Campag freehubs with campag spacing.
Thanks all.

I did wonder about this and then thought "Ah but which one?" HG, XD, microspline ...🤔
Definitely not buying all 3 and then finding out that some bright spark has invented the Single Universal Cassette Keeper System to replace all those to ensure Cassettes Are Securely Held.
Yeah, I think standards sprawl is hurting the industry. I definitely feel like I'm less willing to keep a stock of spares.
That being said, I reckon for a road bike, HG is a fairly safe bet for hanging around. I reckon you'd find it harder to continue to find rim brake groupsets before HG cassettes.
…Single Universal Cassette Keeper System…
So that would be a standard called “SUCKS” or have I just explained the joke and therefore ruined it…

thing is you can still use HG for everything from 7-12 speed you just can’t have a sub 11t sprocket with it. If there’s push for wider range 1x hadn’t happened I’m not sure the wider industry(SRAM/Shimano) would have moved away from HG. Now it’s just another way to try and drive incompatibility and herd customers into their respective “ecosystems”…
Oh dear… top work 👌
Thanks again all. Doing my maths and now trawling the classifieds for a price comparison with the option of a pre-loved whole bike before we spend any more on this one. Of course that'll probably end up as n+1 and I'll end up doing some upgrades as a spare/winter bike. 🤔
