Yes it does, but I think it's better if you run a 10spd chain rather than 9 (coz it grips/holds the NW better)

I'm on 1x9, RF NW 32 up front and a Sram standard X9 rear mech.

Prob dropped it half a dozen times, which isn't great, but then again I wasnt JRA at the time, it's only dropped when descending rough and rocky at speed. For normal xc stuff it's been fine

A clutch mech is the future but it'll mean going to 1x10 and new kit

Not really definitive I know

Yes it does Race Face 30t NW, SLX cassette, SLX non clutch shadow mech, unstretched chain 9 speed, on Cove Stiffee. Dropped once by me throwing the bike over a five bar gate! Never dropped on fast rocky, rooty, Singletrack or technical droppy descents.

If you have a scam 9sp shifter just run a 10sp clutch Shimano mech with a few washers on the cable clamp.

Cheers all. Looks worth a try. I have lotsa 9s rr mechs and the shifters are way cheaper than 10.

Are Race Face rings much better than Superstar?

My hard tail was 1x9 until a few weeks ago. Race Face NW ring with a Saint short cage mech - no dropped chain. Being a hard tail I was able to run the chain pretty tight though, and the Saint mech has a slightly stiffer spring.

No knowledge of them in use I'm afraid. The Race Face ones have been dropped in price recently. If you're doing it on the cheap try a superstar one. I know some folk on a previous thread had many issues but there was a common theme on set ups of Zee mechs in my opinion the longer mech cages take up chain slack better as those of us not having issues were all running standard medium or long cages!

yes, yes it does

I've used Surly and On-one SS rings with 9spd chains to great effect..

Superstar NW ring, 9 speed XT rear mech (long cage) and chain. Never dropped the chain in 6 months.

The clutch in my mech broke after a couple of days in the alps, still never dropped the chain for the rest of the week- should be pretty similiar in effect.

You know you can easily mod a 10-speed Shimano mech to work with SRAM 9-speed btw?
