I've messed up a middle ring via a bodged change and now the chain's jumping like hell. The ring was pretty worn anyway so i've ordered a new one but it won't be here for the midweek ride. Do I put on a spare 9 spd middle for now, or live with it and try and manage with a twin set up 22:42 just using the middle as a step up?

Cool, thanks!

Next Q - why is 10spd stuff so expensive then?

Because it new (well in mtb land) and fashionable + the outer dimension of the chain is thinner so little bit harder to make - but mostly due to new and fashionable

I have just transferred an FSA outer ring marked 9S to my 10 speed and it works fine. The teeth seem a little bit thinner on the 10 speed but it works just the same...saved myself a lot of cash.
