Need to recommend a first hardtail for a mate. He wants to spend £850 on a new bike (not into second-hand).
Reliable XC machine, preferably steel, for singletrack/bridleways - nothing too hectic.

I own an Inbred and the kit advantage seems compelling but anyone ridden the Genesis.
All other thoughts very welcome.
Thanks.

Its a no brainer, the Inbred is way better. I tried a Genesis IO against my slidey Inbred & the ride wasnt as nice. Inbred is just so well sorted.

there is a pretty good bike test of varying price point hardtails in June MBR, worth a look.

The components of the inbred are sooo much nicer and knowing that the inbred geometry suits me and the ride is nice it is no brainer.

Has he tried your inbred?
