Hello - my sons BOX 4 REAR P8 CLUTCH MECH took a bit of a hit today and is destined for the bin. It seems rather expensive to replace so looking for an alternative.

does anyone know if I can run an 11 speed Deore mech on his 8 speed bike with 8 speed box shifter?

I used to use a 10 speed Zee mech with a SRAM 9 speed shifter using a little spacer block on the cable end point but I'm not sure that's any help to you given there's literally no crossover to your problem.  Best of luck sorting that.

Sheldon seems to think you would be ok with a 10sp derailleur

As far as I know 11 speed is different.  I would just pull derailleurs of of any other bikes I had to try them before buying anything though

@leffeboy anything up to shimano road 9 speed is compatible with shimano mountain 9 speed, that's where they split. The problem is Box use another standard again.

I've done a search and can't find any info on what the pull ratio is, it's compatible with box 9 speed so you may have more luck there. Jtek don't make a pulley for that application either.

Microshift acolyte is available in 8 speed Clutch flavour IIRC, but that needs a matching lever.

Otherwise if you're buying a cheap 5100 mech off CRC you'll need a 10 or 11 Shimano lever to go with it, and of course a new cassette.
